I got the MPVI2+ and tested it. It works fine running in Windows virtual machine under Mac OS X. (Can connect to, scan/log the truck, and also virtual-read the ECU firmware.)
Now I'm getting into the actual reading process & have some basic questions. Should I do this in the public forum so others can follow along or should I reach out directly to @JustDSM to save excess noise in the forum?

----My working HPTuner setup under Mac OS X----
MPVI2+ with VCM Scanner/Editor works fine running on Windows 10 Pro x64 version 1909 OS Build 18363.657, under VMWare Fusion 11.5.7, running on Mac OS X 10.14.6 on a 2019 MB Pro w/ 16 GB RAM, using a MacAlly™ USB-C to USB-A adapter, model UCHUB3BG, with the USB cable supplied by HPTuners with the MPVI2+ device.

I'd say ask here. Others may know the answers or be able to learn.

Sorry, my bad, I had posted a bunch of screen shots etc. in an earlier message, then upon reading the FAQ more I realized I had skipped some basic / simple steps & didn't need further help with that. I will post here if/when I get to the point where I need help that's beyond the scope of the FAQ.

I admit I didn’t read all of this but I did a good bit, and let’s assume I know nothing about tuning. Did we decide if this was really worth messing with if the truck isn’t charged? Haha

The stock answer would be.... the god of 2nd Gen HP Tuner tuning himself isnt charged. @JustDSM
The benefits are magnified when charged. But they're still there non-charged.

Ha. I just messaged him about it. Nice, well there we go then. Thanks.
I guess next question would be if there is anyone around Cincinnati Ohio that can help me out as I know nothing about it.

    -Public Service Announcement-

First, a good number of you may have noticed I've been rather silent recently. I know there's been some PM's that have gone unanswered and that's uncharacteristic of me. A good bit of that has been my recent relocation to Utah. I could go on and on about all that it entailed but that's not the point of what I want to say here. There have also been some recent developments that have been in the making over the course of 2021 that are going to reshape how I conduct business within the tuning community. And before we get into that, I want to sincerely thank everyone who has supported me and my tuning efforts over the last few years bringing tuning solutions to this community. It's been a pleasure and quite frankly awesome working directly with so many of you from the forum and getting to work with all your unique set ups. I've learned a lot about our platform, and that's come from all of you entrusting me with your tuning needs. I could never give enough thanks to those who have supported me over the years.

That said, I have worked very hard to give everyone the customer service experience that I would expect. I know I missed the mark on occasion but I have always strived to give everyone my full attention and ensure they get the best solution possible for their needs. However, the tuning operation has gotten bigger than I myself can handle in conjunction with the rest of my day-to-day life. I think it's important to state and remind some folks that tuning has, and will continue to be a side-job for me for the foreseeable future as I am quite dedicated to my professional career outside of the automotive world. However, I am still deeply committed to serving this community and others with tuning solutions, and that drives my need to re-work how I take on future clients and do tuning in the future.

Over the course of the past year, I've spent a great deal of time working with @Boltripper & Overland Tailor (https://overlandtailor.com) on a great number of projects, some of which are currently available to the public and others which are sure to make waves that have not yet been released. Through our time working together on new developments, we have decided to partner, to ensure the widest possible audience can get the highest level of service and support possible with the calibrations you can trust.

I'm sure many of you might be asking "Why?". It's still my desire to ensure that all of my past/present/future clients receive the quality service and calibration support that I've worked very hard to supply over the years. I also want to ensure the widest possible reach making quality tuning possible for a wider audience.

Moving forward, I ask that folks wanting my tuning go through @Boltripper and Overland Tailor so that requests can be handled in a more timely fashion and the logistics can be more easily managed for myself as well as for those needing a tune or ECU flash moving forward.

To be clear, this is for future tuning. For anyone who has completed a transaction (with payment completed before today) with me, this won't change our communication line or your order with me. I will still directly work on modifying tunes that have already been paid for and installed/flashed. *Any new prospective client will need to go through @Boltripper/Overland Tailor*

    Thanks everyone!

    Justin

Sorry if this has been asked before, I tried my best to find the answer without luck.

I recently purchased a 2012 Tacoma 4.0L auto and am looking to Tune it. I have used Ovtune in the past for my 2019 Tacoma and 2019 Tundra, both tunes were great. Does HPTuners offer a tune pack? I’m not confident enough to tune it myself. I’m just looking for a solid base tune since my truck is completely stock. Also, I have a OBDII scan cable from OVtune, would I still need to purchase HPTuners dongle to use the software?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

Yes, you can use HPT on your 2012 Taco.
No, the OVT hardware wont/doesnt carry over to the HP Tuner process.

To inquiry about custom tuning using HP Tuner for your 2012 Tacoma, please follow up with:

Congratulations on your move to Utah. I hope it's for the better. @JustDSM, tomorrow makes 2 years that I've had the tune & SAIS delete. Still working flawlessly. I wish you & @Boltripper continued success!

When @JustDSM did my tune I ended up shipping my ECM to him. That was 2 years ago. You may want to contact @Boltripper to see if that can still be done.

    I had the "V1" tune, I believe that's what it's called.

v1 is a naming convention that is used to describe your first iteration. It's not useful to compare to other's v1. Thought some might be the same/similar, each one is setup per the vehicles specific setup.
