All those empty car lots are like that for a reason, there simply are not enough new vehicles to sell, no conspiracy theories necessary.

The supply chain issues are very real, anyone who does any manufacturing can tell you this. From raw goods, through production labor shortages, then loooong shipping delays, it's rough out here folks, no conspiracy needed. Over 700k people in the US alone have died, a record number of 55+ folks retired early, and real estate and cost of living continue to outpace wage growth. There just aren't enough trained people to fill these jobs.

If the only negative in your life to all of this is you can't buy a new truck that you want at a great deal, consider yourself lucky. ;)

Now that said, the auto manufacturers will smartly use this all to their advantage where they can. Ford already announced that they are moving towards a more permanent system of lower lot volume and higher-order volume with FAR fewer discounts. The days of $10k on the hood of a new F-150 are likely over, forever. You will see dealerships downsizing, too. The old model was antiquated and they are all smart to tighten things up while the economic climate supports the change.
