Question. Where does the DC fast charger get its energy supply?

Unless the unit is powered be a very very large solar array........... Even the most efficient solar has low output in voltage and current. Photovoltaic cells are not high output devices.

I get that, no sun no charging but that changes when you have battery storage with the solar. You will use the battery storage to top off and no need to overnight if it's a DC fast charger. Maybe 40 minutes to charge. Solid state batteries that are in the works will change that time to less than half. So change is coming.

I wouldnt be too concerned. This is just some PR bullshit to make EV look more feasible to the off-roading consumer market.

In order to do most ground disturbing work on public land like FS or BLM, the company needs to get clearance from biologists, hydrologists, archaeologists, and the tribes. Its part of the NEPA. Getting this type of clearance is a very time consuming (and expensive) process.

They might install one or two stations near a popular trailhead like the Rubicon or NPS parking lot. They’ll use it to make a commercial and move on. There is a lot of red tape, you cant just easily go get a permit and build a charging station in the national forest.

(source: I’m a forest service archaeologist)

Even when a rancher wants to construct an earthen stock tank it can be a huge project and take years with all the red tape

Yeah I only see this happening at some popular OHV parks and probably Moab. I highly doubt they're going to be putting charging stations in remote areas and if they did, they wouldn't be there long

That Jeep setup wouldn't work, 4 panels for a powerwall won't do it. It would definitely need more solar panels and grid electric but that's just the way it is right now. Time and innovation will get better. Everyone wants less than 5 minute full charging times. It's just not how it is currently.

That's for sure. But I really like the Rivian one button 6 inch lift. Just still not a huge fan of the front end.

It’ll probably be banned except on a handful of OHV trails. I hear the forest service has a long term plan to decommission most of their roads over the next 30 years. Moving toward a few main gravel roads and the rest being wilderness. We shall see…

When people try tell me electric cars are good for the environment I just say do research on what lithium does to the environment. And what minning for cobalt looks like. Yes oil has caused tons of damage to the planet. But electric cars will do worse.

This guy has the breakdown. EV's pollute 1,400 Kg of CO2 more per production car than a gas car but over a few years an ICE car is still more of a polluter overall.

I’m surprised no one has stated the obvious. Capt Kirk has finally gotten into space. Dilithium crystals will follow shortly.
