my whole family had the same problem when i lived in florida before the military. my mom and dad both worked at Kennedy Space Center, my mom being a scheduler and my dad repairing damaged and broken tiles on the space shuttles. when Obama closed the space program down, both my parents lost their job within a week of each other. my dad is now on disability due to a tree cutting accident(he fell 25 feet and is partially paralyzed) and my mom now works at Patrick AFB in Florida. so it will eventually work itself out

Wasn't the shuttle program scheduled to be finished before Obama took office ?

I was using Hard Drives for data storage. In some cases the hard drive will be loaded and placed into storage. The question arises will the hard drive spin up after 5 years on the shelf. We are moving to evidence quality CD's anbd DVD's for storage now, and even so using consumer burners of most any type one has to examine those burnt CD/DVD's every year or so to be sure the quality of the files has not diminished. We seem to be a long way from the 100 or more year old photos on paper and paper files so far as electronic storage is concerned.

    I know I haven't purchased any CD's.....

But yeah...all that shit is gonna come & go as techology advances.

My Dad still has a BETA player  I still have a VHS and CD player but they're in the closet collecting dust! I have Hi8mm tapes of our wedding that I can't play and need to convert. Imagine what we'll be using in 25 years from now?

Did Sony ever offer anyone new jobs at other plants or offer packages?
I work in the printing industry and my company has closed many plants over the years. For the most part, they are given the oppurtunity to have placement in other plants OR offered packages. I would hope that Sony would offer them something instead of throwing them out on the street blindly.

    Same here...

I still buy CD's...I just went to FYE yesterday an bought 8 new/used CD's. It's more than having just the music and a hard copy. I like looking thru the booklet and most CD's now come with a DVD.

They should retool the factory to make USB drives.

No reason Sony couldn't market music loss-less digital format on a USB drive complete with a full colour booklet (and the same booklet in digital form on the drive)

there was talk about it closing but nothing final
everything is fine now, this was about 3 years ago when my dad had his accident. he is still on disability i think so he's making some money and he buys and restors old rifles and then sells them for a good profit and my mom makes enough money so bring home the bacon so its all good.

thanks for the concern though
