Haven't watched it, but am I correct in presuming this is the super secret squirrel rescue mission that they've been hyping up for months in their Yellow Banana upgrade videos?

Just watched- It looks like a mini excavator would be the tool for the job. Except the long dirt road in.

Most Youtubers go down that route after gaining some fame and success. Who'd say no to money if the opportunity is in their lap.

It's been there for 40 years. Couldn't have been that important

Sentimental value + personal challenge. Not to mention Ed isn't getting any younger. You don't go off road because you have to, you do it because you want to.

my first thought when I saw what they’re dragging out is that the california department of natural resources or forest service is threatening fines if he doesn’t get it out hahaha. That’s the only reason I see it being worth the effort.

I actually hadn’t heard of Matt or his channel until last week when I was on vacation and doing some off-roading in my off-road car outside of Bryce Canyon (I was on the Fremont Trail). I snapped a Spindle and lost a wheel. The car was stuck/broke-down in a bad/hard to get to area.

One of my friends suggested I call Matt because he’d give us a T-shirt and put us on his channel. When I found out he was based two hours from where we were I opted to call a local company instead. The first, local off-road tow company decided not to come-out once I sent them my GPS Coords. The second company I called came-out; he was one guy with a 20 year-old 4wd Wrecker. My recovery took six hours and required some stuff which would have made for a great video!

The owner/operator of the Tow Company which came and got me (Bobcat Towing out of Panguitch) mentioned Matt frequently in a positive way. He even mentioned he had plans on building a dedicated off-road recovery rig much like Matt’s Corvair.

Ever since I returned home I’ve been hooked on Matt’s channel! Even my non-off-roading GF is enjoying it. Had he been closer (and had his website mentioned that he covered the area I was in) I probably would have called him. Guess I missed my chance to be famous LOL

It's a project for a friend. You never done one of those where it would make more sense to just not do it, but you knew it'd mean the world to someone if you did?

That’s the plan! Probably next Fall though; it was pretty cold up there last week plus I’m now going to rebuild the entire front of the car and install some upgrades while I have everything apart.

Keep Matt on speed dial! He's traveled quite a ways in the past for recoveries. And judging from a few glimpses on recent videos, I don't think he charges much anymore. He's probably making more money off the clicks than the recovery would make. Don't quote me on that, though.

For sure, I think that had I called he would have come to where I was. Although I was stuck in a bad spot, with weather coming-in so I was looking to get out of there ASAP! As it was we hit snow on our way out. Next time I'll call them. Hopefully it won't be for something I own LOL!

No, it's a project for views. $20k in labor and travel for a vehicle that is worth about $300, and Ed probably won't be around if it ever gets restored

I went over to the dark side about three months ago (Jeep) and just stopped by here to see how things were going when I saw this thread. I love this show because Matt and his crew seem like really decent folks who have a lot of fun off road while they earn a living. It’s become my number one show on YT.

After reading through this whole thread however, I’ve come to the conclusion that apparently everyone of those recoveries Matt’s made has been due to luck because he doesn’t know what the hell he’s doing. He really needs to contact all the TW experts here so he can get his head out of his ass…

That definitely looked like they would be a member. Pretty well setup truck, just needed a steel skid apparently
