Just wondering what year Tacomas came with the power Seats and heated seats? Mines is 2018 and didn't come with either or. Was it an upgrade option to add to the truck?

Is there also a way to get them installed in the future? Plug and Play?

Heated was an option for certain models of 2nd gens and 3rd gens. My 2017 TRD Sport has them.

    Power seats started in 2020.

Yes it is possible to install them. There would be some wiring modifications to do to make them work.

Damn, you would think both would come standard with the truck being its a 2018. Toyota gotta take every single penny we have...

If the Tacoma wasn't selling well they may have a reason to add things like that sooner. As it is these trucks seem to sell without much work. We get incremental updates at best (note your rear brakes are still drums) but we both still put our money down.

A funny story. I recently ran the “Whipsaw Trail” in BC with a friend in his Nissan Pro 4X Frontier. A reasonably gnarly 4WD excursion by BC standards, especially in October. Anyways……..his Pro 4X got a rock jammed in the rear disk caliper which was an ordeal to remove. I was laughing to myself “thank you Toyota for these off-road-rated drum brakes”.

Anyways…….back to seat heaters and whatnot.

You know we laugh, but drum brakes work. Last longer than discs and are fairly simple. Not saying Toyota ain’t being cheap by resisting a change, but there are worse things than drum brakes (like that stupid stop start bs!).

But back to OP, I believe there are after market seat covers that come with seat warmers. Maybe Katzkin leather?

    Fuck heated seats.

A few years back I was in a friends Dodge Ram, felt a most cool sensation in my nut area. Asked him WTF was going on.

Said his truck had either cooling or ventilated seats, can't remember which, but I wish to hell my Tacoma had them.

2nd gens it was pretty much only in the limited trim. Maybe the Pro or T/x but def limited. Funny if you pull the blanks for non like offroad and sports the wiring is there for the switches but the rest of it is not wired. I ended up using those to tap and power some aftermarket modules into a seat retrofit.

More of an option in 3rd gens if folks selected it.

The 2nd Gen TRD Sport's with 6mt I test drive while looking for my truck, all had heated seats. It maybe more a Canadian market thing but they are definitely not limited to the Limited here.

I remember when I bought my 2019 TRD Sport, that people were complaining loudly about the fact that the Tacoma didn't have a power seat option. I didn't then, and I still don't understand what it is, people have with this NEED to have power seats. I was thinking about this when I saw this post, and since I have had my 2019, which is about 2.5 years and over 41,000 miles now, I have NEVER adjusted the seats from what I first did when I bought the truck. So what would I need power seats for? Just about the same question regarding heated seats too, but of course, I am in an area where it does not freeze and I have fabric seats with seat covers. If I had leather seats and lived in an area that got cold, I could possibly see heated seats, but that is about it.

Power seats are nice because they have a lot more adjustment than just back and forth. It makes it easier for a wider range of people to be comfortable.

OP - I added heated seats to my 2019. Wiring was pretty easy and the switches look factory. Grabbed power from the brake controller and add a small fuse panel. The add a fuse is for turning the lights on and off on the switches.

They're great until you and your buddy have been busting your ass in the summer heat all day and jump in the truck for a parts run. The smell that came blasting up with that nice cooling ball air was bad. Like put the windows down before you puke bad.

    Win some, lose some.

My dad's Lexus has heated and cooled seats. Not a deal breaker for me but they are effing pleasant.

I’ll admit, I enjoy having heated seats in my Taco. Power seat I could live without since I’m the only one who drives my Taco.

I just added the @Clazzio leather covers and heated seats. Best mod so far besides the radio knobs. I have the power seat isn't worth any effort to add imo. I've had both.

Yah that could be right. US wise it’s def less common. Also only front. Assuming the same but if not that’s cool too. I always thought about adding some in the rear

I got these ones as recommended by another member here. They have cheaper kits but I wanted the switches to look factory so spent the extra on these.

Clazzio makes some awesome leather slip-on covers that look really nice & you can get seat heaters as well. I just added them on mine about 6 weeks ago & I love them! Here's a link the one of the threads that has discount codes for Clazzio https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/clazzio-information-discount-codes.533571/ There are also some good pictures in there that forum members have uploaded after putting the covers on.
