Guys i need help, i have been chasing this check engine code for a long time now and i am trying to get this fixed so i can pass emissions So long story short i took it to a local shop, they did a smoke test said i needed a new charcoal canister, i bit the bullet and did it as they really didn't charge much labor only the cost of the part, got the truck back CEL came back on same code, took it back they did smoke test again said it holds pressure and cant see any link so they replaced some sensors too they said, got the truck back code came back, suggested i get a new OEM Gas cap. CEL came back and i finally took it to the toyota dealer to get smoke test done by them, they said the ORV Rollover valve was leaking and wanted $856 to fix! I said no, and i replaced the rollover valve and gasket myself with OEM parts for $70 bucks. I cleared the codes and ran through a drive cycle and CEL is back on! WHAT SHOULD I DO? any suggestions as no one can find the real problem.

Well, find you a taco buddy and try their gas cap if you can before buying a new one  I'd also recommend inspecting the fuel neck connection for where you put your cap on. Check the o-ring for dirt and damage. The diagram on this link is real helpful and might give you more ideas.

Test the Purge Selnoid to make sure it holds EVAP pressure when voltage is not applied.

Just buy and replace with a New Purge Solenoid under the hood on drivers side on engine! Disconnect battery for 30 minutes and reconnect while changing purge solenoid! Problem fixxed ! Did mine 3 months ago! Gas Milage increased too!

Did they also test or replace the pressure sensor on the gas tank?
Worst case scenario the gas tank is leaking at the fuel pump door on top of tank but that usually only happens on rust belt trucks.

Drop the tank, replace the two other gaskets on the fuel tank, all of the rubber hoses for the evap system, and the rubber filler neck hose. I've been replacing a lot of the rubber components on my truck, after 17 years they just start getting dry and brittle.

Most likely a dumb question, but is there any way to 'turn off' the evap leak sensor process? I have been chasing a leak/code for a few years. Have tried almost everything. Been to two shops, including dealer. Two smoke tests. Multiple things replaced. Just want it over... Any options?

Yes, kind of… certain monitors will not “run” if the testing parameters are not met, IIRC, if the fuel tank is above 3/4 full or below 1/4 full the monitor will not run. This monitor is a 2 trip monitor meaning that there has to be 2 “drive cycles” for it to run.

Thank you. So you are saying that keeping my gas tank at certain levels can help with the annoying code; true? And I am not clear on the drive cycles piece.

Ultimately, I was trying to turn off whatever process or part that scans for leaks. Assuming that is not doable.

Will removing the OBD fuse simply disable the port or also turn off the entire diagnostic system?

Disregard my above question. Removing fuse does not turn off diagnostics. Didn't expect it to work, but I am desperate so I gave it a shot.

assuming you have the v6. There are two VSV's , Vacuum switching valves, for the evap system. Should be mouinted on the left fender well. Look at the vacuum diagram under the hood. 1 has vacuum from the intake, and 1 goes to the air snorkle. Then both to the tank and canister. Make sure they are connected and no leaks. With the age of the truck, they are possible sticking either partially open or closed. Replaced alot of them. Hope this helps.

Jimmy, do you happen to have a part number for the VSV, or a link to the correct part? I can only find the part for the 4 cylinder online.

Would be VSV for Evap and VSV for CCV
