Full EV swap. Replace engine trans and t-case with duel electric motor. One unit up front with gear box attached and CV axles (like most ev s , find junk yard Tesla unit) the other Motor spins rear drive shaft to rear axle. Control front/rear motor speed split with electronic controller (AWD mode possible). No need to match gear ratios or even worry about re gearing or low range (due to basics of duel ev motor operation). 450 hp at least, 150 miles range , less bull crap , no gasoline or special oil filter wrench … all the pros of EVs but don’t have to wait for Toyota to make one .

God mode would be 4 hub motors for each tire . No need for any cv joints or axles and no need for “lockers”/ traction control BS

Honestly I feel like the driving experience translates exactly appropriately to those numbers. 270ish hp/torque really isn’t a big number for a vehicle that heavy but it’s adequate and that’s how I’ve always felt about the power. It’s not fast but it’s not like I have any trouble passing on a two lane road either. My last post was just making a joke about how it feels slower than when I bought it after sticking a bunch of steel bits and big tires on it, it’s still fine.

That said I have a manual and if the auto’s as dim witted as you all whine about I could see that making a big difference in how powerful it feels. That engine really doesn’t like being out of the powerband and if the auto is trying to keep you at low revs for fuel economy purposes it would feel really gutless.

Yeah bet I need some fuel system cleaner, must not have anything to do with the steel bull bar, winch, sliders, skids, roof top tent, lift kit and tires with a few extra inches of diameter I put on over those years.

I drive the manual too, 6th gear has been useful maybe 2% of the time over the course of the nearly 6 years I've owned the truck, 5th gear is useful less than 10% of the time. 1-4 works fine but having two overdrive gears where one is utterly useless and the other not much better is a failure of power. I took a road trip to Wyoming 2 years ago, the interstate speeds are 85mph up there over the rolling planes. It was everything the truck had to pull 65 on those highways.

Yeah I agree on the gearing, the two overdrives are stupid, I drive on the highway a lot and I do use 6th a good bit on downgrades or dead flat but I use 5th more and there isn’t really a situation where 5th wouldn’t be totally fine. Would’ve been much nicer if they made 6th the ratio as what they did make 5th, made 5th direct drive and then made 1-4 closer ratio, that extra gear would really fill the big gap between 1st and 2nd. I love the short first as an off roader but such a big gap to second.

I still don’t have that much trouble on hilly highways and I live in the Pacific Northwest and drive all over the western US so am no stranger to highways and mountains. Just drop down enough gears to get past 4000rpm, running near redline won’t hurt the engine.

Edit:thought of what 6th is useful for. Getting the engine to the absolute lowest RPM that will keep it moving at 55 on the EPA’s highway test.

rotated tires changed oil threw out the old air freshener.

You might look into your rig.

I recently drove across the Dakotas, Utah and Nevada. Lots of 75 to 85 mph. Not a problem with the MT 6 speed in top gear. Call it 2600 rpm.

LOL you didn't say you added another car's worth of weight to your truck. Then what are you complaining about it's probably running fine. Like my COVID weight I packed on. I'm slower but still the same old me, just better insulated!

Had my truck since 2016 and I never got anything above 21 mpg. Maybe all this crazy traffic here in SoCal..

I still don't understand this one. It's a very common complaint, so it has either been perpetuated to the point that people feel shamed if they don't share the same complaint, or I'm a 6'2" (175lbs) man who doesn't sense when he is being crammed into tight spaces. Are y'all bouncing up and down in your seats? Maybe you need better suspension or fewer bumps? Maybe don't have such good posture while driving? A little gangster lean perhaps? My last rig was an FJ Cruiser, so it's not like I upgraded from a hardtop mini cooper.

I felted cramped when I went from my 99 ranger I think because the seats and floor are lower. Just felt much more spacious where I had to watch my head getting into the taco. I'm used to it now but the first year or so it did feel funny and I'm short. 5'7"

Yah, I think it really boils down to what people are used to. I have about 3" of headroom, which is fine. In fact, I prefer a compact for off roading and general drivability because it feels like an extension of myself without having to sacrifice the truck bed in favor of a car.

I use 6th gear even when cruising 35-40 in the city. Picks up speed just fine, even goes up slight inclines. Not sure why you are having issues.

Im running bigger C load all terrains too.

I did 5.29's already because the stock gears are stuuuuuuuuuupid, but it would be nice to have a transmission tune that doesn't suck. That, or just put a manual in it.
