How did the arms break? I think I’ve read of a bad batch of the XAxis bushings but don’t recall any other issues.

They had a bad batch of joints. It should all be fixed now.
If you have issues contact them. They have been very good about replacements.

Their own custom built one. - this sort of thing is their bread and butter of their entire product line (which spans a very wide range of vehicles, they are not just Toyota A-arms company)

It's the most important component of their entire setup. It's the reason why I can adjust my lower cams for maximum rear wheel well clearance and then not touch them again. All the camber and caster adjustments are done with the upper ball joint.

Is it the 3rd design or what ever with the XAxis joints?

I wouldn’t trust those arms on my truck, too many issues in the past to have any faith in a company like that.

From what I understood, it was a problem with a batch of them, other batches are made to spec and have not been a problem.

Strength wise it's never been a problem

I had issues with the joints and bushings, but this was two years ago. They honored their warranty and replaced the whole set. That said, the process wasn't that great for me.
I bought TC UCA's while dealing with the warranty and sold the replacement set. I have friends that run the SPC's and are completely fine with them, no issues.
