Has your level remained steady ? Since they took the head off; proper head gasket installation is key and could be the source of your loss of coolant. I’d keep an eye at it.

the level has not stabilized yet. The oil looks good, no coolant drip visible on the ground, the coolant is down about 1/2 pint in 1600 miles.

Is the oil on the dip stick looking normal?

Just heard from the dealership. Coolant return line, between the two heads leaking. Very small leak which fortunately was pooling in the valley under the intake manifold, so the mechanic found it quickly. Don't know if this is the same one that he did not connect correctly during engine reassembly, or another. Should be ready this afternoon.

Picked the Tacoma up. Repair order shows that they replaced a hose clamp. Good timing to get is sorted because we have a campground reservation on the beach Saturday!

1,300 mile trip, pulling a 3,500# travel trailer. No coolant loss, no check engine light, oil clear and at full mark. Looks like everything is as it should be. Hope this is the final chapter in the valve issue, replaced head.

Tacomas have non-interference engines, so a valve stuck open wouldn't get smashed by the piston. It would still run like crap though..

Wait, was it a loose hose clamp or a full-blown head replacement?

replaced the passenger side head and both exhaust valves on #3. The hose clamp came into play during reassembly. The truck was running fine, with the exception of the "check engine" light. Toyota determined that the #3 cylinder had only 80# compression, and was leaking down, so pulled the engine, replaced the head and valves as stated above.
