I put a deposit down on a 2014 Tacoma and the only thing that concerned me is a smell when the AC is on but only on start up. It goes away after circulating but at first it smelled electrical. Any suggestions or anyone else have this issue

Check the plug on the ventilation resistor pack and the A/C Ventilation Blower Motor under the passenger side.

One goes to the resistor and has 4 wires. The other goes to the actual blower motor and has only 2 wires.

Can you explain what I should be looking for? The AC blows cold and the blower settings from low to high seem fine

Look for burnt or discolored connections at the resistor, also pull the resistor out and make sure no critters made a nest in there as I've seen that happen too.

You didn't happen to have the transmission fluid replaced recently at the dealer? I had the Corolla and the Tacoma Transmission Fluid Replaced at the dealer. They both smelled for several weeks after on both vehicles and it was very strong for about a week. Its the adhesive they use to reattach the trans lines. The smell was enhanced through the ac ventilation system. Just a thought.

THank you. I ended up buying the Truck and checked the plug to the blower motor and yes it was kind of melted. The Price was ridiculous but I know how much Tacomas are wanted. So I guess I just need to get new plugs

    Part number 90980-10916 Connector

Part Number 82998-12380 Wire and terminal

Not sold as a kit, sold as each. So you will need one of the plugs and two of the terminal and wires.

My many years as an electrician and electronics tech have shown burned connections such as you have are due to loose fitting terminals that have a high resistance. This resistance expends energy in the form of localized heat ( Just like what a heating element does ). This heat causes burning of the plastic and increased looseness and more resistance and more heat ...

If the motor was defective and dragging it would cause an increase in current draw. This increase would be through the entire wiring circuit and would be evidenced by the entire wire burning end to end and not just at the connector.

Long story short: Your blower motor is probably just fine.

Noted. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! We purchased the full bumper to bumper warranty and I am curious if they will cover this but such a cheap easy fix I will probably just do it myself. Shouldn't have wasted the 3k for the warranty but who knows.

Your deductible is likely way more than the total cost of the parts Jimmy posted. It's an easy fix, and well documented

    Have fun with the truck
