I'm gonna get one of those Optima Yellow batteries whenever mine dies. No issues so far in my 2.5 years of ownership. Any other recommendations for aftermarket batteries?

Approaching the 3 year mark (truck and the factory battery) with mine and it’s still fine. Down here in FL, if you get past 3 years with our heat, you’re doing pretty good.

My stock battery is still good after almost 4 years, and my truck gets driven on weekdays only. No battery tender either. I don’t see why I won’t get couple more years out of it.

Well not really. If you do a lot of city driving and constantly turning on/off your truck, it won’t last as long as let’s say if you do a lot of daily highway driving.

Interesting. Stock battery in my ranger lasted me for 4 years, and I bought the truck used, 3 years old.

I have killed my battery twice, both times I forgot I left the bed lights (self installed) on. Jumped them both times and it was fine. When I had time available or if I knew the truck will be sitting for a certain amount of time, I hook it up to a battery tender. So far, so good.

I had a Scion tC, where I left the headlights on and left for a week long work trip. The car had a Panasonic battery, all I did was charge it and it worked for the 7 years I owned that car and was fine when I traded the car in.

Good thing the engine is still gas, and not battery powered. I don't think auto start stop will be good for the battery on vehicles with that feature, probably not good for the starter or alternator either. Good thing the Tacoma does not have that.

The TRD Pro should be equipped with a Panasonic battery as standard equipment.

Timing is everything. My battery just died last weekend as well. Jumped it, drove for three hours, put it on a charger, startup fine Saturday afternoon. Sunday morning, dead. I bought a new battery, went with an Excide AGM Deep Cycle. My 2010 taco's first battery worked well for 5 years and then died.

What you are saying has nothing to do with mileage. Your battery has no idea how many miles you are driving. It is the number of cycles and temperature that impact battery longevity. Some batteries are better than others. The OE US made battery isn't exactly stellar. 2 to 3 years seems to be common regardless of miles driven.

So what you are telling me, is that the engine that constantly gets turned on/off while taking short trips around the city, will have the same chance at charging the battery as the engine that’s being highway driven daily?
    No way man.

What I am saying is that mileage has nothing to do with battery longevity. You could have the same miles on a truck that is started and stopped frequently not driven as one that sits and is rarely started. Mileage means nothing.

You might not be wrong there but I never said anything about mileage. What I said in my original post, was that the vehicles battery that gets driven on a highway everyday, will last longer then a vehicles battery that does a lot of short trips in the city with the engine constantly on/off.

It is my habit to replace the battery every three years, whether or not it seems necessary. This may be overkill, but I've never been stranded even in the drastic weather in northern Minnesota.

You should buy one of those lithium jump packs to keep in the truck.

I don't blame ya, while I do carry a jump pack, I'll replace my battery every 3-3.5 years. I don't wear tires down Bologna-skins either.

The stock battery is trash. Replace it with a yellow top and never think about it again.
