Just picked up my 04 TRD yesterday. Truck has Cooper Discovery ATR tires on it. I do NOT know how many miles these tires were on the truck for. They are in the following state:

Fronts - both chewed on the outsides...somewhat decent tread left in the middle. Found them to be at 23 PSI each

Right rear, fairly even wear, found it at 22 psi

Left rear, bald in the center, some tread left on the edges, found it at 39 psi.

It just has me shaking my head. I did buy the truck from a car dealership, so whether they put the stupid pressures in, or they just LEFT the stupid pressures in from the prior owner, I don't know. How anyone can be that stupid I also don't know.

Anyway, I assume it's because of "care" like this that these tires wore like hell. I now have basically 4 junk tires that, on first glance, only one looked iffy. So, I am now shopping for tires. I see a lot of recommendations for the Cooper ATR tires, but, if they are going to wear horribly, then I'll go with something else. Given the pressures, and my steering wheel being slightly turned left while I'm travelling straight, I think lack of alignment and fail pressures probably caused this over time.

    Thoughts?

The dealership sold you a truck, with a tire that was worn past the wear bars? If so, I'd drive back there and tell them to give you a deal on a new set of tires. AFAIK, a tire like that is illegal on the street...

Yeah...strange. We checked out the truck in the evening without much light and looked at tires other than the one that has the bald center, and stupidly didn't check the others. It's Jersey inspected...if that explains anything. Probably not much repercussion I have now with the dealer, I'd imagine.
