I have a 2016 Tacoma and I drive through a tunnel with about of 1 foot or so of water due to lack of drainage and every time I get my truck wheels wet the E brake system locks op the drum brakes constantly. I usually am a able to unlock them by rocking the truck to and fro, but yesterday they were locked up solid.
I contacted the local Toyota dealer and the service manager came out to my house and aided me to get unfrozen. One side became unfrozen before the other side. He jacked up the side that was locked up and used a screw driver to reach the top adjuster cogs and he got it loose?? The truck has been taken care of by the local dealer since I purchased it from them in 2016 and has about 71,000 miles on it. I have an appointment next week to have the drum brakes looked at? This dealership has an amazing crew and I totally trust their judgment. I really do believe that Toyota has a design flaw with the E brake/ drum system in the 3rd generation? Thank you folks for your time Mike

Glad you have a dealership you trust.

Not a design flaw, and many threads here on the same topic.

When you say 'frozen', you mean wet then sit in sub 32F temps frozen? Or seized, say like oxidation?

Cold weather freezing is an easy fix. Don't use the eBrake. If parked where you want the security, use a chock.

Tip. I'll bet you today's lunchtime Diet Coke that nothing the dealer will be able to do will 'solve' your particular issue for an extended period of time.

Do the 3rd Gens have bell cranks that adjust the rear brakes when parking brake is applied?
