    Hi
I recently bought a brand new Toyota Tacoma Off road 4x4 and its being amazing its my dream truck.
My city its so hilly and often very steep hills, i put 2000 miles on it and noticed sometimes when im in a downhill my transmission gets slower or downshifts making the truck slower. And sometimes when im cruising or before doing a stop sign i depress the gas pedal and suddently i feel like it jumps to another gear before even making a full stop in the stop sign.

    All this stuff its normal???

I really really appreciate your comments.

Yes totally normal. Computer controls everything. Even has AI that will anticipate your driving habits. I live in a hilly area and my truck downshifts on most hills to help slow you down and save a little on the brakes. It’s not perfect and many times doesn’t do anything at all.

The downshifting when heading downhill helps keep your speed down by maintaining a higher RPM. Not sure if you are familiar with a manual, but it’s the same concept. Keep the vehicle in lower gear to use the engine for braking instead of only brakes (helps decrease wear).

All sounds normal. It’s a clunky truck, not a sports car. Definitely requires some adjustment of expectations if you’re coming from something that’s more uhh, refined.

Thanks for your comment , its my first New vehicle never had a tacoma before.
You said something true, " its a truck not a sports car". I love it , and its reliability. Im thinking to keep it a long long time.

One key thing, especially while the transmission is “learning” how you drive, is to be super intentional with your throttle inputs. It’s annoying but if you really learn how to drive the truck and you’re consistent then the transmission learns you and it actually drives pretty good.

This. I also use cruise control pretty heavily and don't have any of the issues some people complain about with this truck.

I've had Shift Sense Pro installed in my truck for over two years now. Has kept the tranny from hunting, and stays in each gear longer (I have it set on mode 2). I have recently been driving with it off. It's nice to be able to switch back and forth without having to uninstall anything.
