What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

So no. Neither one were custom valved/tuned. That would have definitely helped with ride on the kings. The off the shelf kings with adjusted are built for base weight Tacomas with no consideration to use, the clickers only serve to stiffen them up from stock valving. Next set of shocks you get or next time the ones you have need rebuilt, get them valved by a good shop (Accutune or the like) for the actual weight of your truck and your use. Ie the valving changes for mostly road or rock crawling or desert go fast shit. Makes a difference.

 

Installed yet another set of retros courtesy of @dpf88101 and added an air coupling in the bumper to fit the 4 hose inflate/ deflate.

 

Hand wash, she still looks pretty good from a distance lol. Did a clay bar and ceramic seal on the roof in prep for Prinsu install. Starting to get the beginnings of the roof peel so hopefully that’ll stall it for a bit

 

The kings were revalved by a local shop the stock setting was to stiff you’re right it did make a big difference but I still liked the icons better. Makes no difference now I’m back on ome 886s up front for now life got in the way needed some quick cash.

 

Frame winterized, cleaned breaks and switched to winter tires.

 

From today:

1) cleaned out the bed of all debris
2) removed the hi-lift jack
3) planned on mounting the 1.5 ton HFT jack but ran out of time
4) greased the upper BJs
5) greased the driveshaft
6) greased the swingout hinge
7) fender well satin black paint touch up

Ran out of time for:

1) bolt check
2) swap out summer air for winter air in the tires
3) check oil level

Hopefully this week after work one day

Changed out the sagging rear suspension. Picked up some used 5100’s and 3rd gen leafs w/3 leaf AAL from @kmorgan3 earlier this summer, been sitting in my garage waiting for a rainy weekend to install. Gained about 2” after install. Pretty good rake going now, but will be putting 6112’s up front soon that will hopefully even it out a bit.

When we decided to get a roof top tent, I new I wanted it to be fast deploy and able to hold the bedding and as light-ish and low as possible, but able to carry the kayaks if needed too, as the wife loves kayaking. So we settled on the two channel CVT Mt Hood medium.

But when I ordered it, I knew I was gonna pull my Front Runner roof racks and just use two 48” 1020 8020 extruded aluminum slats and low profile (1/2”) feet from prinsu. Apparently I had it in my head that they came in sets of 4 or something so the week of our Moab adventure


the shit arrived and I didn’t have enough feet. I needed 2 pairs of feet from the load bars to the tent and 2 pairs of feet from the tracks on my camper shell to the load bars. Since I didn’t order enough, I had to use feet from my front runner roof rack.

As such the tent was about 4 1/2” above the cab. Which was ridiculous. Those feet were 2 7/8”. The new ones are 1/2” so the tent is now a bit lower which I love. The tent is 1 1/2” over the shortened shark fin antenna and 2 1/2” over the cab.


But from personal experience hard wheeling I know that bed only flexes about an inch independently from the cab.



So I may ending up fabbing an even lower profile solution. Although now I can fit my arm under there to check bolts and I may not be able to do that logically with a lower profile set up.

 

Keeping the tent nice and tight looks and should perform better! The 8020 is good stuff

 

I had a similar day.

 

I swapped my front coil springs out and installed grease fittings on my LCAs.

So after a lot of thought and probably tons of unnecessary calculations I decided to pick up these coils and try them out. They should set me right about stock height, which I prefer.

Zerk fittings!


Coilovers out, shocks aren’t too dirty. Still ugly white though.


New coil springs next to the outgoing model, those are Dobinsons C59-238 coils. (14.75” free height and 586lbs/inch rate)


No better opportunity than now to remedy the colour choice!

Installed some Superbumps while I was under there, just in case I need them.

 

One year birthday present for my grey goat, bumpers front and rear with a winch, put on the skids I've been holding onto, as well as swapped the chrome grille for a painted one.
