I'll explain this to you very slowly so you can maybe understand.

I wish it was easier to put 35s on the tacoma because I'm not going to run my stock $40,000 truck on trails that will damage it.

BTW, I don't know if you've ever heard of trails called the Rubicon, Fordyce, Dusy-Ershim, Bronco canyon...

All in my backyard. None of which I would even think of considering in a tacoma on 31s. All of which I have done on jeeps with 35s

A taller tire and wider tire are not synonymous. A taller skinny tire will have better lbs per square inch on hard surface trails with rocks than an equivalent sized tire that is wider.

The gains in soft surfaces are negligible if any being wider, as a properly aired down tire at a given tire height will be the same length in contact area, but the additional width can be hindering with the amount of extra rolling resistance is created by the width of the wave in front of the tire. This wave could be soft sand, snow, mud etc.

Aesthetics are not even part of the equation.

Lol. Wow. You've gotta be trolling at this point. In case you aren't, and you actually believe you're correct on contact patches and traction, I've added something that might help.

You do know that Jeeps and Tacomas are built differently for a reason, right?

A Jeep on 31s could probably still out run a DCLB Taco on 35s on any of those trails you just mentioned. You would still need more than 35s on your truck to keep up with Jeeps with 35s on those trails.

Again, my reference about bringing a knife to a gun fight is still relevant here.

And if you go back and read carefully, you'll notice that never once did I ever even hint that 35s were an end all solution. My original comment was that I wished it was easier to get 35s on, like the gladiator.

Although it did get you to grace us with the comedy of your litany of errors, so I'm thankful for that.

And you'd be wrong, again. You ain't running a tj on 31s up the first two walls on Fordyce.

I was joking about the aesthetics part, but I guess the emoji didn't make that clear enough for you.

I guess by your logic we should all be running skinny 31's. That's what all of the more experienced off-roaders are doing, right?

Increased pressure doesn't equal increased traction, BTW.

Obviously, to the point of this thread, a Wrangler is definitely a superior off-roader.

What's weird, though, is that most of the built Jeeps I see are on larger tires than stock. I guess they must not know what they're doing. They should probably just pick better lines.

I saw your emoji, and figured I would tease a little. You okay?

No, I am not at all saying we should all be on 31s. In fact I don't believe I evan made a lean in that direction.

Most of the jeeps you see off road are built to go on much tougher trails than a Tacoma with 31s, 33s or even 35s. If the Jeeps are sporting anything bigger than 35s, then you and I both know it's either for looks or they go on trails we would have difficulty walk on, let alone taking a Tacoma through with anything smaller than a 42.

Judging by resale value and the amount of used jeeps for sale i'd have to say the Taco is the the better choice.

    I agree with this.

But, I'll still argue that bigger tires have advantages no matter what vehicle you put them on. While they may not be necessary for what someone is doing with their truck, they can definitely make things easier.

I don't think anyone would argue that big tires are a replacement for good judgement and good driving.

    Agreed.

"Bigger" tires are not equal. Tall skinny vs tall wide will have their variables over a given terrain. Pros and cons to both.

Adding 35" tires to a DCLB Tacoma whether easy or not, is not going to compete at all with a Jeep on 35s on anything that requires that kind of clearance. Ground clearance under the lowest point is one thing, clearance at either end and center of said vehicle is another. If picking better lines is at all an option, then a driver should rely on that as best they can regardless of tire size. Yes taller tires will give more options for picking lines, that's a given. However, 35s on a $40,000 DCLB Tacoma isn't going to fix it's length and hangups on the trails that absolutely require Jeeps to run 35s. Trail damage IS going to happen on said Tacoma. Phyzziks!

Well had a lot of Tacoma’s since 1989 and have had only a few minor recalls but have a lot of friends and people that know of people with Jeep’s and they cannot say the same . They do look so good with all the mods but if there at the dealership you can’t use them much .I have a good friend that has one of the first Gladiator Rubicon and he has been without it for a total of 3 months in 4differant times because of electrical issues. So GoodLuck to all Jeep owners

This sounds like lemon law territory. Has your friend tried to get Jeep to buy it back?

Jeep is #1 for quality, reliability, drivability, rugged good looks, off-road capability, resale, and getting chicks in my books.

I drive a Toyota because I like to do my own repairs, enjoy showing off my driving skill in a less capable vehicle, don’t like to draw attention to myself, and am already married.

All this talk about Tacomas not performing. I decided to go wheel my Tacoma that’s on 33” today.

Hit a few obstacles I had only done in my Rubi on 38” .

    3’ and 4’ ledges.

Taco survived with a few new scratches on the skids and sliders. I was missing the front locker and 38” but I got through the obstacles with some finesse.
