Forgive me if my Google-fu is weak and feel free to post relevant links…

Heated seats are now required by the fairer sex of the household, so I need to add them. Anyone tried or know about buying a Genuine Toyota temperature control unit like the one below and wiring it? Photo below for reference:

Likely not that simple- more like the whole system/dash removal.

better to just buy aftermarket seat heater pads and pick whatever switch you want to use. There are some that have short style buttons to use an open slot on the dash… which would look more factory than those with an universal rocker that gets drilled randomly in the dash.

Yeah, I'm definitely avoiding the universal rocker switches. The OEM-ish ones look decent, but eat up more dash button space I could use for "stuff". Thanks for responding!

There is at least one thread where someone attempted a dual climate upgrade. I don’t believe it worked out.

I have dual climate in my truck. As far as I can tell, the only difference between the one above and mine appears to be the seat heaters above the rheostats. I'm inclined to agree though; the more I think about the project, the more I think it's a lost cause.

Oh, in that case it should be very doable. @caribe makaira might know the pinout for the heater buttons. First step would be buy it and swap in and confirm no problems. Then it’s a simple matter of pinning the open spots on your connector with jumpers to pull the triggers for each switch.

Also, jealous for dual climate. That’s one feature I would definitely like to have.

Oh awesome! This was what I was hoping, but don't know the LED between the seat heater buttons would be effected. I'll big thanks to @caribe_makaira for any info you might have too!

Ask a few dealers in the area. When I purchased mine they were able to add them with a nearby aftermarket shop who partnered with the dealer. Even came with a 3 year dealer backed warranty.

Yeah my bad for assuming that was the situation here. Didn’t realize dual climate came with and without the butt buttons.

I would be impressed if this was done with OEM buttons. I assume hole drilled in plastic and round / oval crappy two way rockers. That seems to be the industry standard.

My personal setup is OEM heater switches from a Tacoma with an LED color swap by @kmorgan3 which I have yet to install. Still using the crappy aftermarket green switches. But we did discover that the 4 runner small switch is ice blue for seat heater so that part would be my pick if I were starting from scratch. And I think I only ever found the connector for one side.

Ok so I assumed you were in a manual climate trying to convert to digital. Didn’t realize there were different digital/dual versions

What year 4Runner has the ice blue buttons? I've driven a few vehicles recently with some ice blue lights that kill my eyes at night... I'm all but blind in one of our patrol cars unless I cover the buttons on the new style Whelen siren boxes.

I'm very curious to see where this goes as I'd love this upgrade. The replacement OEM temperature control unit seems to be 700-1000 dollars so that may be a nonstarter for me. Does anyone know where the seat heater relay would be located? I'm assuming there's a relay module under the hood. Apologies I cannot check as I won't have my vehicle for 2 more weeks. I'm curious if the relay location is prewired to the temperature control unit for those of us with dual zone climate control but no butt warmers. Are the schematics pasted above taken from a service manual that is available to forum members?

There seems to be decent availability and pricing for used temperature control units though. I'm waiting on a call back from the dealership to see what they'll charge too. Just in case.
