Started with a 2015 4Runner SR5 for the wifey. Did the whole lift, big wheels tires, sliders. Then added my current Tacoma. For whatever reason, sold the 4Runner in 2020 for only a couple grand less than what we paid 5 years back. Instant regret. My wife kept nagging me to get another one. Then added a 2021 OR 4Runner and quite happy with the rotation. Added Bilsteins/Eibach, sliders, and some SCS with 285 tires. The Runner is our family hauler and is spacious and drives way better and is more "practical". Hauls five easy. Tacoma is our weekend toy to hit the trails or cruise the town or hit up the local Home Depot hehe.

We "need" both I keep telling myself. Can't imagine selling either, unless someone wants to offer us a stupid amount. Also, never cared for gas mileage. I knew going in what I was getting into. It's like walking into McD and complaining about calorie count.

this is probably the most ridiculous thing I have read today…an 11 year old platform has leagues better interior than the 3rd gen taco?

I'm thinking I'll take the drum brakes off the rear of the Tacoma and swap them with the front discs on the 4Runner. Solve all the problems at once.

Easy test to prove they aren't:
Compare the door cards alone, Tacomas have zero padding and flex when pulled on to shut the door. The 4runner actually has a comfortable padded armrest in addition to being far more robust.

Newer does not necessarily mean higher quality, the 4Runner is a more premium vehicle and is built as such. If they were in the same price range, then your argument would be closer to ringing true.
Sit in one and feel how much more substantial everything in it is. (With the exception of the sun visors which are garbage in the 4runner)

It may have been hyperbole to suggest it as being leagues better, but it is better nonetheless.
