Hey everyone, I am making ready to do an in-depth polish and wax on my wife Cadi. When looking it over I noticed what looks like a place where it had been bumped and whatever was hit ribbed off on the paint.

If I had to guess it looks like that yellow plastic like you see over pilasters/poles you see sticking up in parking lots. The paint doesn't seem to be damaged but the plastic or whatever it is is stuck to it pretty good.

Does anyone have experience in this sort of thing? It's the only blemish on the car and I don't want to be overly aggressive getting it off.

Post pictures. But I would try rubbing alcohol, and then try a compound of some sort. I like meguires compound. If that doesn’t work, you can always wet sand it with 2500 sandpaper.

I was thinking that maybe Alcohol would be a good starting point. I have two gallons of Xylene, but it may be a bit harsh for the effort. My wife is out with the car so pics will have to follow.

I would start with a cleaner wax, then a polish compound, then a cleaner /rubbing compound. Start least aggressive to most. Alcohol will not remove anything, lacquer thinner may work but can also damage the paint. They sell scratch removal kits that have a wet sanding set up but need to be careful or you can burn right thru the clear.

Sorry I got busy and forgot the Pics. I was able to get the smug out with cleaner wax. Thanks to those who offered help in the matter.

This was on that Cadi that I am considering selling. I got another offer on it Thursday of last week. It's a bit lower than I thought would be fair in this market but I'm considering it. This car truly is a gem and also a real "little old lady who only drove it to Church really on Sunday car". I know this because she is my mother.

    Thanks
