TPMS Relearn

Ever since I have installed my new wheels and tires my TPMS screen on the truck was showing "---" on all four corners. Did my research and a lot of reading and learned that I may have to have the dealer relearn my truck for the new sensors.

Extreme Customs, were I purchased the wheels and tires, sent me the info on the sensors that were installed, company name and email address.

I sent them a email yesterday on the issue and received a return email this morning asking me to give them a call to work through the issue.

The guy explained what was needed to do and suggested to not go to the dealership as they may charge me $$$ to relearn the truck.

So he is sending me a TPMS Tool that I can use to relearn the new sensors to my truck. He even gave me his cell number to call him when I get the tool and will walk me through the entire process of relearning the truck for the new sensors.

That's what I call a damn good company and very good customer service.

 

Do you know which sensor is installed on which wheel?

IIRC, the "learning" is dependent on sensor position.

 

I do know that the sensors that were installed are Alligator sensors from Wegmann Automotive. German based company but they have presence in the US.

According to the guy I spoke with here will walk me through in getting the ID's of the sensors into the TPMS tool and then hooking it up to the truck to relearn it.

YOU need to know which sensor and its location. The sensor are IDd by serial number. These numbers should be recorded as to which wheel position each sensor is located.

 

What the guy explained to me was that you go around and use the TPMS tool to capture the sensor ID from each wheel and you specify in the tool what wheel it is. Then it's a matter of uploading that info to the truck computer.

 

There is no "relearning".
You need to punch new IDs into TPMS computer. Need techstream app and OBD cable.
Other way is to program your new sensors with your old IDs

 

BTW, trying to get the sensor ID's from Extreme Customs was painful. Never got it...

 

This tool that they are sending me has a OBD cable coming with it..

 

I just bought some new rims/tires/sensors and a tool and went through this process. Scan the new sensors, edit my sensor IDs in techstream to be the new values, had Discount Tire mount the new tires on the new rims, then you just hit the relearn button by the drivers left knee and drive off. No issues. Sounds like all the above is on track, the truck just needs to new sensor IDs loaded in with techstream.

I am a KDMAX tuner so I have the cable/techstream, this was my first venture into TPMS land and it was easy with the ID reader added to my toolbox!
