After experiencing some vibrations at various speeds in my 21 OR, along with feathering tires, I suspected alignment/balancing issues. I brought the truck into Toyota and they addressed both alignment and balancing, and also informed me that they both felt and saw the driveline move upon acceleration and that they would be replacing the entire driveline. The tech said that this movement wouldn't have caused any damage to components, but I am always suspicious. Is there anything that this movement could have damaged? Anyone with more knowledge care to weigh in? Anything I should look out for, double check, mention to the techs, etc.. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

That's a little vague, but in general other than the front diff, the entire driveline (engine, transmission, and T case combo and rear driveshaft, diff, and axle) can all move around safely.

The front diff is solidly bolted to the frame.

The engine, transmission, and T case combo is on three rubber motor mounts that allow it to shift.

The rear driveshaft, diff, and axle are supported by the leaf spring suspension, so . . .

I doubt very much it caused any damage to any other components, but if it did, I’m sure you’ll notice well before your 5 year/60K powertrain warranty is up.

Yeah, all they said is that it shouldn't be moving that much. I am wondering if there is more to the story. I take it on on NOV. 9, so I guess we'll see what happens. Just seems strange to me. But, then again, I don't know a whole lot about it, so...

Definitely get more details and info for your own knowledge. But, there's a driveline concern and they're letting you drive it? That's werid.

Yeah. I asked if me driving it would cause any (or more) damage and they said I am totally good to go, but that if I had any doubts they would give me a rental for a few weeks. I opted to take the truck home and just drive the wife's car so it's not sitting on the lot for two weeks and so someone else who needed it could use the rental- they are in short supply, I hear.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "saw the driveline move upon acceleration" and "replacing the entire driveline"?

When they drove it, they felt the vibration on acceleration. Then, they had had it lifted and saw the movement. Apparently, it was abnormal enough to replace the driveline, to include the carrier bearing. That's all the info I have, but can call and ask more about it and get back to you. Anything specific I should ask?

Ok, so instead of the entire driveline we are probably talking about the rear driveshaft and the movement in question is a driveshaft oscillation. I'm guessing that if left alone that such a vibration/oscillation could cause damage to the driveshaft bearings eventually, but your truck is quite new and I'm assuming they'll inspect them when they replace the driveshaft. Personally I would not worry about it.
