Make it 1000 by next Oct and you should be golden. We're watching all comments and trying to make this enjoyable for the largest number of people as we go each year.

No one likes to get shafted by an inactive santa, get a shit gift from someone that forgot/had a talkin to by the elves, not be able to find anything except "how big of tire can I fit" "subd" "*derp derp*" posts from their victim, etc.

Listen up folks!

 

They weren’t here then (well some were), they ain’t here now! And prolly none of them want to hear what someone with more that 1K posts has to say anywho!

 

But some will still complain. This is an almost one year, notice. No excuses for up the thread with a sob story they didn't know.

 

It’s the semi-active participants that still participate when necessary and have a 500 count post limit that are getting sidelined by the new goal posts. Almost like we should have a “Grandfather” act that allows them to continue to participate! Not everyone gets on in here and goes for broke just so come Oct they can have a bit of fun. Let the ones that were previously active continue to be active and of course remove those that broke the trust. Eventually it’s just going to be old timers sending shit to old timers. Not that I qualify for that title yet, but where is the fun and holiday spirit in restricting past participants that made good on their claims. Don’t punish the good for the bad.

 

It's an interesting idea, grandfathering in anyone who made a previous cut for the indefinite future.
But that wouldn't particularly help anyone gifting to those low-volume posters do the requisite stalking to get them something cool/special/rad/fun/awesome.

I am kind of thinking instead of cumulative posts it might actually be better as an unchanging goalpost for the calendar year (post count since 1/1). Since posts from years ago are likely outdated and of minimal contextual value. That could mean someone with thousands of total posts would potentially be eliminated one year but it'd also mean everyone has the same chances for subsequent years. The major problem with that sort of concept is that there does not appear to be a public stat to help measure "recent activity" or any way to count posts after a specific date.

Anyway, it's fun to think about what the rules could be when you don't have the responsibility of enforcing them.

 

Interesting idea, there is always a search feature to see who posted how many in a given year with the advanced filter but the leg work would be annnoying! Maybe 3 elves just isn’t enough! I vote @PzTank for elf duty!

While I have no qualm with the post count hike I have one with a hike that prevents past through hikers from participation!
