The LED SAE J583 Fog Pod & Fog Light Review

Probably these:

 

AKA not fogs, and should not be used on the roadway with other motorists. They are blinding due to lack of pattern cut off.

SAE compliant / road legal?

 

Only if it has their slit lens insert. Which if its as blinding as described, doesn't seem likely.

First chance I've had to use the Max selective yellow in a real world scenario.

Driving through what the news describes as a rare 'bomb cyclone' event in a colossal downpour while trying to head out to a super remote cabin in the mountains for the weekend, conditions were so bad 30mph was pretty regular in a 2 lane windy mountain 55+mph highway due to lack of visability. Couldn't see a damn thing, the rain and road spray was so heavy and the oncoming traffic had a stupidly high idiot ratio with people running their high beam trying to help, blinding everyone else on the road. Can't wait for auto high beams to be standard, not for high beam help, but to turn high beams off with oncoming traffic. Its was one of those drives where you just follow the right white stripe with the fingers crossed.

Enter the Max. Since it was massive rain rather than actual fog, it took me a while to consider running the fogs. But once I clicked on the Maxes, they cut through everything in a way that isn't even describable in words. Instantly visibility of the roadway was no longer an issue. My highly concerned 7yr old in the back seat said holy shoot as soon as I turned them on, because the difference was so extreme. If a 7yr old can tell the visibility differences and feel safer, that should be all you need to know.

 

I had another interesting realization in my poor weather driving experiences over the weekend. It was easy to lose track of the vehicle ahead of me, even though they were quite close they completely disappear into the wall of water and mist. This didn't really stand out to me until I had a Range Rover ahead of me with dual rear red fogs. That RR stood out better than anything else on the road and while the tail lights were completely invisible, the rear fogs easily stood out letting me know exactly where that vehicle was. It was a truly impressive safety feature in those conditions, one I will now investigate replicating for my truck.

Edit: Found the Euro spec OEM rear fogs with proper integrated reflectors for the Gladiator. Looks like I won't have to reinvent the wheel.

Been away for awhile. Finally going to replace my stock fogs, thoughts on Baja Squadron SAE? What’s the next choice?

 

Compare reviews between the SS3s vs Baja SAEs. Bajas are some of the lowest performing fogs on the market, the design was botched, they rushed a hack fix which hampered performance even more to the point they are lower performing than stock H11 fogs. Not recommended.

This thread has recently passed 500,000+ views. Half million plus views for SAE fog lights! It is exciting to see such traction on proper SAE lighting and the new products brought to market for this segment compared to where things were at when originally launching this thread.

 

I've had enough experience with euro cars to see that often.
Slightly funny story, I work at a Lexus dealership and a Mercedes that we sold came into the service dept. They were saying one of the brake lights were out. Nope, you're just driving around with your rear fog light on.
They looked at me like I had 3 heads. Hahaha
Until I showed them and explained what it was for. It's pretty sunny in SC so must people have never heard of a rear fog light.

 

I think we all appreciate all the work you put into this. I know I do! I have the white SS3 sport's and the amount of light on the side of the road is amazing (perfect for spotting deer on the side of the road at lower speeds). I have the yellow SS3 pro's on a light bar that can be turned on whenever for fog/snow. When they come on they almost completely drown out the headlights with the ultimate headlight mod.

Yep. They look pretty amazing. Not SAE though as the output intensity is too high.

 

It’s been mandatory on European cars for decades. Shortly after joining TW I saw someone mention them and another member referred to it as ‘euro tuning crap’ or something along those lines. Absolutely should be mandatory in my opinion.

 

In my brain I was still picturing a 7 chip circle with a honeycomb faceplate, using individual SSC1 optics for a user-customizable set of pods. This is cool though.

 

Innovative idea! The 3x3 arrangement is almost 30% higher in output than a 7 emitter arrangement though, assuming cooling is similar per chip.

 

Yep more power than 7 with a similar footprint. Can't wait to see all the specs!
