Op, you were hit so hard from behind it cracked your front end and distorted the hood? If so, that’s a huge amount of energy flowing through the sheet metal. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is damage that isn’t visible.

    Glad your ok,

Do you have a lift? The first pic makes me think your frame is jacked since there is so much space between tire and bed. But that may be a lift. Another sign of frame damage is the bumper looks pushed in along with being down. Finally it may be the angle but the bed looks jacked up in the left rear corner. So I am thinking that left rear rail area has mash and is high.

Up front you will probably need a core support. The left fender is buckled around the lamp. Probably damage to the condenser and bumper reinforcement, lights and maybe fan shrouds. Will not know if fixable until know if needs frame and bed

I think you got hit so hard, your frame vaporized and blew away like a swarm of bees. Also, your core support probably fell into a rift between galaxies and disrupted the time space continuem. So now in an alternate universen theres a terminator after you and youre driving a ridgeline. The end.

If this had happened 12 months ago, maybe. Today, your local dealership will slap an MSRP sticker on that and tell passerby it's a little rough around the edges.

(Yes, I'm aware that's not how it works. Just another post lamenting the ridiculous values on Tacomas these days. :deadhorse:)

Especially since the value varies so great based on condition, mileage, year, location, options, and a bunch of other factors,,,, we're 7 build years in to the 3rd gen.

First of all glad you are OK. Trucks can be fixed or replaced a lot easier than you can. Second, none of us are going to be able to do anything but guess. This question can only be answered by your insurance adjuster and your repair shop. To complicate things even more, you may start out as a fix but your shop may find additional damage they can only see by tearing the truck down, which turns it into a total. I understand the process can be frustrating and time consuming. Hopefully you have rental coverage on your insurance policy so you have something to drive while this all gets sorted out.

I agree with you there could be more damage than expected and hope he has rental coverage while he waits for the outcome which could be a long process.

Speaking from personal experience, even a bent frame isn't enough to total it. The trucks are valuable, and that means your the insurance company will spend a lot to avoid a total loss. If they can pull the frame, they'll pull the frame. All that awesome value in vehicles nowadays is just extra reason to repair instead of replace... They'd probably put 20 grand into that truck before they'd write it off.

It’s hard to say in this crazy truck market. My 2018 Tacoma OR DCLB was rear-ended at 30 mph and pushed into a Tundra. The body shop said most insurance companies will total a vehicle if it costs 60% of the value to repair. The Progressive Insurance claims guy said now it’s more like 75%. The actual repair estimate came in at a little over $22,000, but Progressive valued the truck at $41,273 and totaled it. I paid less than $35,000 for it in 2018.

Nope, it will get fixed. I was in a similar accident last month, but was hit hard enough that I need a new frame, and mine isn't getting totaled.
