I have found FF at Lowe's for about $10/can. Note, it was out on the shelf, but they had a display with 30+ cans down the isle. HD sells it also.

Do like the idea of hitting it with a wire wheel/brush and then rust reforming paint.

Fluid Film works well. When I had a dog he would lick it off, but otherwise one good spray down in the fall does a good job. I will touch up the frame by the tires once or twice in-between, but that only takes a minute or two. I would just spray it over the rust, as that will prevent it from spreading. It usually soaks in and stays on rust better than clean metal anyway.

If you live in a rust free area, it might be worth a wire brush and some rust converting primmer. I never bothered with fluid film until I moved up north. Even without salt on the roads, winter is hard on vehicles.

Anyone else have some positive reviews on Krown? There's a business not far from me that applies Krown and if it protects as well as wool wax, fluid film, or whatever else I'm all for it. Salt/brine season is almost upon us.

I've done rattle can FF last two years. This year I decided on Woolwax and their pro gun. It sprays on MUCH thicker. I coated my entire frame this thick and used less than a gallon. Maybe overkill in the thickness but for 50 bucks a year I'll keep putting it on like this. Probably get the black though next time.

I'm a long way from the 'Rust Belt' but here on the Central Coast of Kalifornistan I have the 'Pismo Dunes' that I occasionally will hit and that involves salt water, salty air, and salty sand and over the last nearly 4 decades here, I have seen some seriously ate up vehicles. I've only got 4k on my new Taco but have had it on a couple jaunts out there but I bought a cool attachment for my pressure washer that I have used each time. It's a little chingadera on wheels and sprays the shit out of the undercarriage and does a great job of it!

Ironically, I just caught a video on the UtOOb this morning on the identical subject. I'll be doing this exact process this weekend and next week, I intend to treat the rig with black WoolWax, I think. I'm going to buy the sprayer to do it. Here's that video. It'll probably blow up this guy's channel once I post it!

Here's another option from those hosers up north eh!

I'm hoping to schedule a treatment at the closest authorized dealer, then hit everything myself going forward. Too bad there aren't many shop set up to offer this... yet.

That reminds me. I checked online for a local California Krown applicator and plugged in my zip code. It referred me to Calgary, BC!

They’re pretty vague on what’s actually contained in their product. Report back after winter and let us know how it worked.

This fella has been doing extensive undercarriage rust prevention testing videos. Most of the common products do seem to help prevent rust to various degrees.

I agree with you and also want to add that the treatment will not wash off when going through a touch less car wash. I was told by my Krown man.

    Spot on.
Main ingredient is phosphoric acid. Changes rust from iron oxide to iron phosphate. Iron phosphate makes a great primer surface but will not continue to protect without some other top coat (paint) --- just as you said.
Can also be found at hardware stores / lumber yards by the name of Ospho.

It is an acid (though mild) so take precautions (not in eyes, wear shop clothes, etc.) and rinse well. BTW, phosphoric acid is in most every cola.

OP that doesn't look unusual for the north after that long. Doesn't matter if you're driving a Toyota or not.

I used Woolwax last year and am about to order some more. I used about 4.5 cans of the aerosol spray to coat the bottom of my truck last year. I did everything that wasn't plastic/rubber because around here the rocker panels and wheel wells are usually also very susceptible to rotting out.
