Hope everything will turn out okay. Considering that he's 16 means a lot. He's had a good home, and that's all we can do.

I want to thank ALL of you for your kind words. We’re having a good morning. Special treats and lots of belly rubs.

one of you mentioned your cat became more attentive and loving… Elliot has always been a loving lap cat. The last month or so, he’s even more so. I’ll take all the attention I can get from him!

I’ve often called him my problem child. At a year old, he ran headlong into a a small metal rod, the hook end actually got caught on his eye socket. (No damage to the eye itself-amazingly!). At about 2 years old, developed horrible coughing. Multiple tests over months to eliminate everything possible. Turns out he has asthma. Have you ever had to give a cat an inhaler? After a few treatments, he understood it made him feel better and from then on he took it like a champ. There’s other myriad minor things, but he was no problem in reality.

Vet is this afternoon. Hope to come back here with some decent news.
(Because of his asthma treatments, he traveled with me frequently. This is him on our 500 mile trip from Birmingham to Tampa)

Yes it is bud. I got lucky, just hooked up the trailer and parked it. Started coming down.

:notsure: Is he coming back with you?

    :fingerscrossed: for good news.

We have to give one of ours an inhaler and you’re absolutely right. The first few times he didn’t much like it and now he just takes his eight breaths and everyone is happy.

So one of our cats has just decided he doesn’t know how to drink water. He just meows and meows and then we have to stand with him while he drinks. We move away he stops drinking. We’ve cleaned his water bottle (not that it was dirty, but he’s a cat so who knows what’s going through his head), bought him a new water bowl, bought a water fountain thing (scares the crap out of him). :annoyed: He’s not old and in good health….I think he’s trying to drive us mad.

Maybe an insecurity thing? Cats can be wary when they put their head down to eat or drink. Feels safer with you standing watch. Just a theory...

I made a winter house for our outside semi-feral kitten. She comes in to eat but isn't being accepted by our house cats so we have to put the cats in a back room before letting Sara inside. She will linger inside most times after eating, we can pet and rub on her but she then goes back outside.

I made this out of an old Coleman cooler, and put a piece of backpacker sleeping pad inside, doubled up then added straw. It took a while but she goes inside now but also still sleeps under our shed. She'll probably stay in the cooler more as the temps start to drop. She came out the other cold morning and was very warm to the touch, so she'll be fine. I placed a wide piece of plastic on top to provide a water proof house, the cooler lid design is not water tight. I added a porch over the entrance also.

Leave wife behind, bring cat home?

Haha. Maybe that's carrying things a little too far.

I started making an outdoor cat shelter for the feral colony I feed. It's going to be bigger to accommodate more than one cat it's about a 3 foot square packing crate. I've wrapped the whole thing in plywood, covered the floor in plywood. It'll get a hinged roof so I can clean it out and replace the straw with fresh as needed. I'll use some foam board to insulate it. I hope to work on the roof a little this weekend. I've also got shingles left over from my garage roof, I'm thinking of covering the whole thing.

That's a horrible idea. What time?
Something may have scared him while he was drinking. Your presence kind of says security issue. Maybe you could elevate the bowl for a bit so he can see more around him. Lower it when he is a bit more secure.

    We are home!
Thank you everyone for sending good thoughts for Elliot. He’s not out of the woods yet. More bloodwork/test results are pending. He still may have a little bit left in him, but thankfully, today was not the day that I feared. I’m ready -as ready as you can be for such a thing, I guess- but I’m getting myself mentally prepared.

Much love to all of you for your kind words!

Glad you got to bring him home. I read the other post, and sounds like you have given him a good life. (Which is not surprising after meeting you!) Wishing all the best for you guys.
