In case you hadn't noticed; while you were absent there was a bit whining going on for the lack of Creed green around here...
    Just a FYI,

If there is one thing that can push a normally calm and reserved man to a meltdown that John Cleese would be proud of -- a printer...:smash:

Printer is pissing me off so I'm going to shift gears. :burnrubber:

I'm kind of proud of this one. :)

I've mentioned before that monthly we take a report with the information on all the rooms we have on campus (about 16,000 lines in Excel) and need to merge it with a different report with the people that are in the rooms. Naturally the 2 reports don't play nice and it was a huge pain to get them to merge.

That has been working fine but then I felt the need to try and make it better. Failing miserably on one front that shan't be discussed, I decided to try a different tactic. Instead of a bunch of copy/pasting into specific locations in the old Excel file (and if you put something in the incorrect place it didn't work), I could rework my file to completely skip the copy/paste steps.

That worked great but then it ballooned into making a button in the Excel file that:
    • Copy/pastes all of the content from one tab onto another as values to remove the hideous formulas and make sorting and filtering faster
    • Delete the the necessary 3 tabs that are required for the file to work to reduce the file size
    • Remove any #REF! errors
    • Turn column filtering on
    • Automatically adjust the column widths
    • Changes the file from a macro enabled Excel file to a regular Excel file
    • Bring up the save as box with the file name and today’s date pre-entered
What would manually take you about 5 minutes each time now takes seconds and is virtually idiot proof. Until we hire a better idiot.

Yes, I'm an Excel nerd. Can't help it so I play into the curve. :D

It required getting emancipated which is pretty annoying like any legal process. My parents made me pay for it lol which I totally understand.

I had never worked with macros before but it wasn't too bad to figure out. Oddly enough, it involved a lot of copy/pasting from websites so users don't need to copy/paste.

    Nice!

We went to Atlantic beach for our daughters birthday a couple weeks ago, ate supper beside Big Rock, they have a lot of blue marlin tournaments. They just happened to be giving out checks for the winners when we walked by so we stopped and watched the last few. 3rd place won $9,800....2nd won $11,000....1st won $70,000 and also won a lot of other stuff for a total of $220,000..He had one of them big checks you see on TV for $150,000

Wow. I've heard of those big time fishing competitions but thats crazy. Around here there are a lot of bass tournaments, the top prize is usually a boat. The national tournaments are different obviously, usually a boat and cash prize for those.

Lot of bass tournaments around here as well. One of our customers used to fish professionally, he uses a Ranger boat now that he won, I saw a picture of him holding one of the big checks for $100,000 several years ago

Don`t those Pro fishing events have a pretty big entry fee??

Lots of the prize money most likely be written off for advertising .

Yes, I think they do. Even small club tournaments around here are $100-$150 to enter.
