How to store/secure fishing poles - DCSB

How do you guys store fishing poles or equipment that is longer than the short beds? I got this truck a couple weeks ago and I have just been throwing my poles in the bed at an angle so they stick out the back slightly. I want to make sure I have a plan for how to store these longer items as I begin ordering parts. Roof rack? Bed rack? Let me see how you organize!

 

The pvc in the back is what I use for surf rods of course you have to keep the broken down for traveling.

 

I would do something like this for long or harder travel. On top of roof rack or bed rack.

Then again I usually just grab what I need from the basement and let them hang out the back of the softopper.

 

What happened to your right taillight?

 

I was testing the Hitch pod light before I closed everything back up.

 

I use the "Portarod" system to haul my surf rods up to 12' with no problems. It's just a ratchet system that comes with a cable and lock if you want to use it. You can angle your "rocket launcher's" to any degree you want. I've used it going down I-10 at speeds up to 70+ mph with no problem.

 

I need to re-do it, but this was just scrap plywood and pvc. Cheap. I've found I don't need the bungies.

 

I usually like to just hold my rod.

 

I have big ole saltwater gear, so I'm going with roof rack, holding large capped PVC pipe. The rods (reels off) will be individually rubber-netted, Velcro-ed together, then stuffed in the pipe.

The gap between the back panel bar and the top of the tail gate is perfect for the rods to poke out.

I've traveled hundreds of miles with some pretty spendy rods hanging out.
