Don't be lazy like me and leave the skid plate off

    Hi,

I ran over a 5 gal bucket on the freeway today and I had just installed a new radiator last weekend.

The good news - I did put the skid plate back on. Usually I don't after a repair in case I might want to check for leaks etc. Good chance it would have taken out the radiator.

I thought the bucket would get stuck under the truck but seemed to pass right under (I looked it up top diameter is 12", bottom 10"). First gen Tacoma with 2.5" lift.

Thats the good thing about trucks, I bought my 98 new and never had any body damage despite being hit lightly 3 times. Twice in back, cars went under the hitch, no damage to my truck, massive damage to the cars. Another time a guy road raged me and side swiped my front tire. It was kind of funny because the whole side of his white car was black from the tire front to rear! Poor guy, I wonder how long he had to drive around like that. I didn't even need a wheel alignment.

The truck w/o skid plate is actually more vulnerable than a car since radiator hangs below bumper.
