Damaged stone guard repair gen 2

    My gen 2 has discolored and damaged stone guards. They look like crap.
    I've used this 2k "bedliner" that has an activator in it and dried SUPER TOUGH.

    The discolored rock guard is just a clear sticker that has dirt between it and the paint. Did you remove it prior to painting or just spray over it?

    I replaced the stone guards on the fender flares with OEM stickers and it was a PIA. The lower ones are starting to look bad and I wasn't looking forward to replacing them. Will definitely keep you method in mind when the time comes.

    They refused to be removed. And a razor blade started cutting into the paint. So, I shot on top of them.
    This stuff is thick.
    It shouldn't be an issue.

    I totally would’ve removed before painting too. Don’t like the idea of painting over a dirty sticker.

    I haven’t used one but I’ve heard great things about these:

    this is the correct way to remove old vinyl from painted metal surfaces. Wont work on the fender flares since the friction will melt them.

    OP is a 5 lug without plastic flares, just metal fenders.

    I work with this stuff daily. The remaining "stone guard" was gone; the black was glue, collecting dirt. This can be stubborn but cleans up with Prep Sol or Goo-Gone. You may have some adhesion issues or bleed through. A competent shop could have that cleaned up and fully replaced in an hour or 2. Regardless, the repair looks much better than before. Curious to see how it holds-up.
