I suppose it just depends on what you want to do with your Creedmoor. Rock River has an AR-10 6.5 Creedmore upper.

I freely admit, my AR is a crap ton of fun to shoot, mainly because it doesn't hammer my shoulder to gooey paste after the first 50 rounds. The flip side to that is I don't expect it to shoot .5" groups. I've shot several sub-.75" groups out of it (some down into the .6s) with the load development I've done so far, but I think that's about the best it's going to get, even when I finish the development and decide on a favorite load.

With a bolt gun, even with an inexpensive R700 action, as opposed to those high dollar custom jobs, and a good custom barrel, I expect a lot more. Definitely sub-.5" groups. Possibly in the .25" group range, although I have yet to achieve that with my 6.5 BR. The fact is, you can play around with your loads a lot more with a bolt gun. You aren't constrained by the need for your ammo to fit in a box mag, you don't have to full length size your brass every time; you just neck size it to hold the bullet and leave the case custom formed to your chamber. You can play with your bullet seating depth to find out how much if any bullet jump it likes before the bullet contacts the lands. The list goes on and on as to why a bolt gun is more accuracy friendly than a semi-auto platform.

IMHO, if you're going to shoot a big caliber like the 6.5 Creedmoor or the .308 Win, etc...that is going to beat the crap out of you, it takes the main point of fun out of the semi-auto platform, so all you're left with is impressing yourself by how tight your groups are either at 100 yrds, 1000 yrds or anywhere in between. Then you can brag about them to us here that evening while you've got an ice pack strapped to your shoulder, lol.

Of course, if you're the type that just wants to go buy a box of ammo off the shelf and hit the range, then you're never going to achieve the best performance out of either platform so your personal preference is as good as any basis for a the semi-auto/bolt gun choice. But I know both of you know how to hand load. Maybe not to the full on OCD Benchrest quality degree...yet, but you could get there if you wanted. I have almost as much fun handloading my own ammo as I do shooting it, so even if I didn't have a barreled action that just needs rechambered to Creedmoor, I'd still want to build a bolt gun for anything over 300 yrds. I just plan to depart from the traditional stock and go with the modern chassis stock that I can bolt whatever parts I want to on it and customize it for my taste.

Has anyone tried planning an unofficial meet? I know I'd be down to use some 4x4 before I head back to Colorado for the winter.

I’d be happy to try to coordinate something. I’m guessing weekends would be best for everyone? Something before mid-December? We can even hit up Hard Rock Offroad park if you all are interested.

That could be good, or I believe Withlacoochee State Park has some offroading trails as well.

I’m planning a run February 12th or 13th, if anyone is interested. I haven’t been in months, time to go check the conditions.

I would be interested going out there sometime early-to-mid 2022 too.
I just got in my Old Man Emu suspension kit in the mail today...
Looking forward to getting it put on and giving it a test run at the CWMA soon!

I read on a fb group that trail 15 is closed from 18 or 20 down to the caves. Which sucks because that was a fun part. But that’s why I need to get out there and check it out. I used to go every week or so, it was interesting seeing how everything changed with traffic and the seasons.

I will get out to Citrus (my first time) in early April. A bit of a ride from Daytona, so I want to be able to camp it too.

Hey Paul! Yeah I'd be interested to hear what the trails look like too since I haven't had a chance to go out there yet. And I definitely wanted to hit up Trail 15 too!

Before the Winter storm decided to hit this past week and changed my plans, I was planning to do a camping trip down there too. I found the website www.trailsoffroad.com to be pretty useful in helping me to decide which trails I wanted to hit up. Here's a link for Trail 15, for example.

Maybe we could coordinate together for some time in early April. That way if one of us get stuck the other could help a brother out?

Went out there today, All open! Even went into the caves with a group of jeeps that flagged me down so I joined! Went in through the holder mine camp ground and rode across trail 10 and rode 15 also, Very fun time!
Looks like some recent controlled burns happened which is why it might have been closed. A lot of the land was freshly charred and sand added. Keep me posted on the next meet!
