Thinking about trading 19 OR 4x4 for 4Runner OR

    Morning all

Been here more than 3 years and have been a regular contributor. My Taco has a lot of strengths but I have never really accepted the transmission shifting characteristics. Even with the latest software update, I drive in S4 now because it still irks me.

I test drove a 2022 4Runner OR Premium and the 5 speed shifts like a traditional transmission and the overall build and solidness of the vehicle is of a higher caliber.

With regards to the financials, Ill be around 13.5k out of the door to go from my 2019 OR with cloth seats, not heated, no moonroof with 28k miles (and a dented tailgate) to a 2022 4Runner Premium with 0 miles, heated seats, moonroof, softtex seats and a new 3 year bumper to bumper, which to me seems like a good deal even in this market. They are offering me what I paid for my Taco in Nov 2018.

I've done a lot of work to the Taco maintenance wise which includes regular fluid filming and sound deadening. I tried truck camping in her with a topper but not only didnt really fit in the back but I didnt like being separated from my cab. In the 4 Runner I can fit AND be in the cab.

Since Im still torn, if anyone wants to weigh-in with your thoughts, Id appreciate it.

I think it's your money and if that's what makes you happy you should do it, regardless of anyone else's opinion. In this market if you've identified a new vehicle you want I wouldn't spend a lot of time thinking it over, or by the time you decide the option may not be there any more.

I agree. If you can afford it and want to give the 4R a shot, why not? 4R’s hold their value pretty well, so you’ll probably be fine switching to something else if it doesn’t work out.

If the transmission is the biggest complaint, spend the $300 and get it tuned. If you still dont like it, get the 4R

If it's what you want and can swing it, I don't see why you wouldn't do it. I'd probably do it just for the heated seats and drivetrain if I had a problem with how mine shifted.

If in 3 years, the vehicle doesnt fit your needs then it seems useless to try to make it fit. Get the vehicle that will. Life is too short to not be happy.

Good luck in your decision :hattip:

The only issue I see is having to create a profile at "4runnerworld."

I went from a 2017 Tacoma to a 2020 runner then a 2021 runner. No regrets. I personally like the 4runner more than my old Tacoma. Interior is nicer and spacier. However the only thing that I miss is a truck bed. However I use a utility trailer.

however I have a deposit on a 2022 Tacoma and will be getting into that once it comes in. 4runner will be going to the wife.

We have both and they each have their strengths and weaknesses. The main advantage to the Tacoma is the truck bed.

If I didn't use the truck bed frequently we would probably have two 4Runners. :D

Ironically, my buddy is doing something similar. Wanting to keep his 2016 4runner in the family garage by giving it to his wife. Only he's looking to upgrade to a new Tundra. I keep telling him it's too much truck for him but he won't listen. Haha.

    I went from 2019 4Runner OR base to 2019 Tacoma ORP with 6MT. Previously I had 1994, 1999 and 2004 4Runner's, all went over 200k miles.

4Runners are more refined, well thought out and that 4.OL V6 is an awesome engine. Great family vehicle, my wife loves all of them.

I personally prefer manual over slush box, so after my wife moved on to a Sequoia, I got the Tacoma.

You can't go wrong with either. Both have cult like followings and aftermarket support are great.

I have a 2018 TRD Sport and came to realize I only use the truck bed on rare occasions. And, I too have a nice Aluma utility trailer that does all my heavy lifting. So, after about the hundredth email, postal mail, and phone call offering some pretty wild valuations on my Tacoma I went into my preferred dealership and worked the numbers on a 2022 4Runner. They were astounding. About $6500 out the door. They offered nothing for my cap, so I sold it here on TW in less than 12 hours (should have listed it higher, and waited till I actually had some tracking info on the new 4Runner). So, here I sit, bare back and waiting an unknow amount of time for the 2022 4Runner exactly the way I want it. Good luck with your decision, and patience.
