I've been a self proclaimed Glock anti-fanboy for most of my life. Years ago, a college buddy of mine bought one and I couldn't hit $h!t with it. To be fair, I was raised on the rimfire and I was likely milking the gun in anticipation of the recoil.
Fast forward to my mid to late 50's.....
I have a few 9mm pistols and love shooting them. I have a few CZs, a couple of Smiths and for Christmas last year, I bought a Shadow Systems MR920 Combat. That Shadow Systems is awesome and I shoot it great.
Now, I'm planning on a G19 for this Christmas. I have it narrowed down to a Gen4, but am interested in the marksman barrel of the Gen5.

What's the concensus here?? I haven't actually held one with the finger grooves but I don't think that will be a deal breaker. I would like it to be able to hold groups of less than 3" at 25 yards from a rest. Is that asking too much?

@ColoradoTJ, which Glock 19 do you think is best?

The first handgun I ever fired in my life was a Glock, but it was not a 19; Based on what I've read, I'd say Gen 4 is the best so far...

Are you dead set on glock? P226 sig is really good for accuracy at that range but more $.

Get either the 19x or g45. You will thank me after you do. I have both a 19 and 19x and I love shooting my 19x way more than my 19.

Unless you're law enforcement or find one used, the Gen 4 will not be available for purchase as Glock has made those LE only for whatever reason

    X2

If not a 45 or 19x, Gen 5 is the only option in my book

I've owned a gen 2, 3, 4 and 5 G19. I have small hand so the gen 5 fit me better. Your better off going to the LGS and trying it out yourself.

i like the gen 4s or gen 5s with the larger mag release. between the two it will have to be if your hands fit the finger grooves or not. mine do. i have both and i like both. it really wouldnt make much of a difference to me which one, other than looks; i do like the gen 5 "no finger groove look" better. if you have larger hands, look at the g45/g17 as mentioned. is this going to be a target gun? concealed carry gun? a do it all gun?

I managed to get my hands on a gen3 and a gen5 today. I thought I'd like the finger grooves but I didn't. I really liked the feel and the trigger on the gen5 so I'm going with the gen5.
The trigger felt a lot like my Shadow Systems trigger, no stiff wall before the break, just a relatively consistent pull through all the way through. That was 'out of the box' so I'm sure it will smooth up in time.
Thanks for all the input folks.

I like the 3rd Gen simply most custom slides etc are built around that but the 5th Gen trigger is better and the mos model plus barrel are great features.
    I vote Gen 5.

Gen 4 or 5. I'm a lefty so those are the only ones I could switch the mag release on it. Not a fan of finger grooves though so probably Gen 5 would be best.

I’m not saying it is the best.
It’s just the one that’s been shot the most.

23 is nice. Drop in a 357 Sig barrel and make it sing. Or a 9x19 barrel and extractor and and make it a set.

    g32 g19 and a g23

You can still pick up old stock Gen 4's but it has been for the 18 months or so from what I am told no more Gen 4 for the public also hearing the reason is Glock is filling all LE orders at the moment that were under contract.

I have threaded 9mm barrels for my Glock 27 and 23 both Gen 3. Other than the barrels, I bought a shit ton of 9mm mags for both.

Never touched the extractor and never had a problem with either.
