Found this on AutoAnything. I don't know what type of catalyst could do this to gas, diesel or jet fuel. Any chemists in the house?

    Description

Boost power, reduce emissions and save at the pump while you’re at it. The Fitch Fuel Catalyst enhances gasoline by boosting octane and bolsters diesel by improving cetane and lubricity. Designed in union with the Department of Defense, Fitch boosts all fuel types—diesel, gas, even JP fuels.

Fitch Fuel Catalyst pre-treats fuel before combustion. By running through Fitch’s proprietary metal alloy, normal fuels transform into superior-quality fuels. And, quality fuel means more power, increased MPGs and lower emissions. Plus, it allows premium-fuel engines to run lower-grade gas with no performance loss.

Not to worry, the Fitch Fuel Catalyst simply bolts right in under the hood. Each system comes with vehicle-specific quick-release fittings, so it’s easy to patch right in-line with your vehicle’s fuel system. What’s more, your Fitch Fuel Catalyst system is backed by a 250,000 mile warranty.

I have this kit installed on my 2010 Taco.

No it don't give you 50 miles to the gallon, but it has other good benefits.
I've used it in many different engines such as snowmobiles and motorcycles, it keeps fuel fresh its able to boost octane . The web site has more info.

There was an article on the product in Off Road Adventures.

While they proved that it doesn't do to much to quality fuel that has been in your tank for a short time, it DOES reconstitute old fuel. Increasing its degraded octane back to "Par" per say.

They made the marketing mistake of using the same name as a number of additives... including some pellets that you add to the tank that don't go away.

Ut oh it was a mistake posting on this subject.

I know it has worked for me. But Dont expect big gains form it.
I know it keep fuel fresh, it would boost octane one or 2 points but not Make 87 lnto 110.

    Sorry its been so long.
The Fitch fuel catalyst is EPA certified and registered under US Federal Register Volume 54:40 CFR 85.2114 (1)

Yeah, works with any gas or diesel engine. Look up Fitch fuel catalyst, look up the home site, there is lots of info on the site.

Off-road Expo magazine also did an article on it. It works very well, bringing old fuel which has been sitting, back to original octane levels.

When you are researching these type of products, they generally list supporting evidence/documents. Oddly enough, those documents are generally what will tell you they are full of shit. Companies try to present professionally with the understanding that no one will take the time to review. They also know that most people WANT these products to work and are very easily swayed. They hide the lie in plain sight.

I did some digging and looked up some of the research Fitch (aka FuelStar) cites and found just that.

*Oddly enough, the ONE professional research paper that supports their claims was not cited. Maybe because the results concluded very minimal reduction in oxidation*

1: Most of the research was done by people barely qualified to do high school homework, much less qualified to orchestrate and document scientific papers. Procedures were very vague and allowed the "testers" a lot of latitude that could easily provide room for fudging results. Conclusions didn’t support the hypothesis, hypothesis supported the conclusions - a very good indicator of "research/testing" with a predefined conclusion.

2: Fitch (aka FuelStar) has been CITED for "Section 9884.7 (a)(1) False and Misleading Statements" and "Section 3373 Inserting/Withholding info to cause document to be False/Misleading"

3: According to this SITE, Fitch (aka FuelStar), despite their claims, controls who can test their products and won't support 3rd party testing:

4: Most surprising find was there is some credibility behind their claim. The US Army did some research into using the catalyst to reduce and/or reverse oxidation of aged diesel fuels (a well known issue in the military is the deterioration of diesel fuels over time). Their research found that this product was helpful in revitalizing old diesel fuel and reversing oxidation under certain conditions.

Read more about it here: http://immortality.co.nz/fuelstarletter.html

5: My Conclusion: This product is a truth stretched to the braking point. Fitch had minimal success and is taking it as far as they can go with "False and Misleading Statements" and by "Inserting/Withholding info to cause document to be False/Misleading." Unless you plan on running bad fuel (that has been sitting for months) through the "catalyst" I don't see any benefits at all. Even still, the amount of oxidation reversed, from what I read, would be very minimal, making this system cost prohibitive.

Not exactly snake oil, but doesn't live up to the claims.

Basically that outline's a suggested stadardized testing protocol and good practices. As I said, the procedures of the cited tests already accomplished are so ambiguous, the results are pretty much useless. While the author didn't go as far as to say this, it was pretty much implied.

Before this technology/concept can be taken seriously, the research will have to be taken seriously.

This really kind of interesting, it's not snake oil but there's not enough info or conclusive testing to say it really works.
So what kind of test would prove it works or is a flop?
    Is the GSA contract fake?

Your link outlines what needs to be done for conclusive testing and its only a starting point. And thats really only the begining. Read the Government paper and look at how much research and time they put into their papers compared to the crap Fitch posts.

Holding a government contract isn't hard to do. The testing done by the US Army shows some benefits to reducing and revitalizing old diesel fuel. Its not very effective, but in government terms, not very expensive either. Im not surprised the military would buy this.

I only have 7 years in the Navy and Ive seen the government buy some pretty stupid shit. Ask anyone with military experience.
