Anyone own a Yoho who is 6'+ tall? I am 6' 1" and this thing seems to fit the bill on almost every feature except the bed length. Wondering if anyone my height has experience owning, sleeping in one or even lying down in a demo/show model?

    Thanks!

I've seen some talk about it in the Scout Camper Owners FB Group. Sounds like the best solution is sleeping alone and at an angle. I can't see how a person much taller than myself (5'6") would be very comfortable. For my wife and myself, though, I think it'll be just fine. I'll be finding out very shortly!

So when I asked my buddy about using some weld on d-rings for front mounting points on some plates/backer plates he sent me a link to these cool looking pre-drilled plates. Bought four of them. Two for the d-rings to weld to, and two as backer plates to sandwich the composite bed.

    upload_2021-9-7_7-58-32.jpg

These d-rings dwarf the bolt on ones I installed right after buying the Tacoma. Had to have them for loading my quad. I think these look great and should work about as well as anything attached to the Taco's composite bed. I'll still be leaving the old ones, cause why not?

    upload_2021-9-7_7-54-44.jpg

And for the rear, I've already got my @At The Helm bed stiffeners! Should hold the camper well.

Looks good. glad you got it earlier than expected.
I have to say I've been skeptical of the Tacoma composite bed box. could be unfounded skepticism on my part. I'm curious about those tie down plates you placed, I suppose a sandwich will be adequate, but I personally would want to be tied into the front bed-bolts into the frame. I did that on the Habitat.
Enjoy, this should be a much better shelter for what you want to do.

I've never really heard of anyone breaking the bed, or at least not super common. Lotsa people run FWCs with a similar (but not as good as mine) front tie down solution.

Sadly the bed bolts are UNDER the camper, so not really a choice, there. I'd definitely prefer that. I liked that I was able to get the mounts relatively close to the corner of the bed, so hopefully it's about as strong as it can be without having to weld in bars from the underside of my plates down to the frame, lol.

Had my first experience towing with the Scout Yoho behind my Taco. Handled it great. Even up and over Tiger Mountain on SR18 here in WA. The 4.56s make all the difference, I'm sure. And I can't say enough about the Deaver Expedition Stage 3 leaf pack paired with Bilstein 5160s. Works amazingly well with the Scout Yoho.

For anyone curious about the secondary sleeping areas of the Yoho, which I've seen like zero pictures of anywhere, here we go. And obviously using both of these at one time, you'd need some pretty young/small children. In fact, I'd say the east-west bed is practically useless. I'd worry about a child small enough to sleep there rolling off as it's relatively narrow.

    Dinette bed, north-south:

    0909211733.jpg

Dinette to Fridge bed, east-west (fridge must be moved elsewhere):

    0909211733a.jpg

East west is obviously the more cramped location. For reference, I'm just under 5'6".

    0909211734.jpg

North-South would be perfectly manageable for someone my size laying the length of the Dinette. I felt pretty comfy here. But obviously I'm about max.

    0909211733b.jpg

Here's my wife who is just a couple inches shorter than me. She left the cushion in against the wall, so had about same space as myself.

Few of my first "mods" to the Yoho.

We put in the Froli Travel Double Bed kit the night we brought the camper home. Ordered it a couple months ago after seeing it had been out of stock for awhile. Wanted to make sure we had it so signed up for their email list and ordered as soon as a shipment came in for them. You lose a couple inches of headroom but it more than makes up for it with added comfort. It is noticeable immediately. It also gives a really good gap for airflow under the mattress to avoid condensation up there, which I've heard can be a big issue in these cabover campers.

    0909211711.jpg

The Yoho normally has the option of the Dometic CFX45 placed in line with the countertop, but we already had a CFX75DZW that we wanted to keep using (we love this thing). We lost one seat cushion, but it's just the two of us, so it'll be worth it.

    0909211915.jpg

After having put together the Dinette Bed and laying and sitting on it, we thought it would be way more comfortable to always have the cushions in that arrangement. We used a piece of plywood in the same dimensions as the table, with a notch for the table leg. The cushions only have to squish about an inch and stay in very well. We did have to re-arrange the cushions slightly, but the only real difference is a slightly taller cushion next to the door.

    0909211759.jpg

Sorry, no pic of the plywood, but just wanted to show the leg so you can just visualize a piece of plywood there with a notch cut around the leg, lol.

    0909211808.jpg

And there it is. Nicole claims that side as her own. She wants to be with the heater :)

Adding a few pics of the plywood shelf I made to support the dining area/couch. Really made the seating area much more comfortable for my wife and I on our recent trip. Far more usable space. We'll be making some sliding doors to cover the area below it to hold some trash cans and other items. Will obviously add pics of that once we get around to it!

Thursday before last the wife and I took off after work from Kent, WA, and started our trek to Marysvale, Utah for some ATV riding with family. This was our inaugural trip for the Scout Yoho. First pic below is at the first rest area we stopped at for the night, taken the following morning before we hit the highway again. Being able to just pull in and climb in the back with zero setup time was awesome. Gas was expensive, but we definitely saved a lot not staying at hotels on the way south. And as for Gas Mileage, we averaged about 8mpg. Highest I saw was around 9.5, lowest at 7.0. The first day I definitely drove easy getting used to the rig, keeping it at 65 or below, especially climbing the hills/mountains. But the more I drove the more I was blown away at how well our Tacoma was handling the camper and the trailer. With speed limits of 75 and 80 I had little trouble keeping it up at those speeds once I was comfortable with it. Even hit some side winds but never felt any surprising sway. The ONLY time I felt uncomfortable was in a road construction area where there was about a 3+ inch height difference between the lanes and the lane shifted across it, causing my trailer to pull hard to the side. Woulda sucked with or without the camper.

    upload_2021-9-28_9-24-16.jpg

Another random pic from the Jason's Deli parking lot in Henderson, NV. We made a 3 hour detour twice for this place. Wife and I love it, and I think it's about the closest one to home. We didn't camp here, we spent a night up at the Logandale Trailhead for some ATVing between trips to the deli :) So yeah, 3 nights at rest areas, 1 night at a truck stop, 1 night at Logandale, and 4 nights at Rocky Ridge Resort in Marysvale. Loved it! Can't wait to get out some more.

After having hauled around my AT Habitat for nearly 3 years straight, I gotta say being able to drop the camper is awesome. No more hauling around my car trailer just to pick up something that would easily fit in the truck bed. Dropping the camper, my very first time, prolly took me about 10 or 15 minutes. This was alone, with one drill to run the camper jacks, walking back and forth around it many times. To me, this is a win. I'm sure this will save a lot of wear and tear on my truck, and I'll be getting much better mileage. And on top of that, there's always the risk of getting in an accident driving to Fred Meyer or something. At least the camper will be at home safe until the next time we go camping (hopefully this weekend!)

With my previous mod of making the Dinette into a "bed" fulltime and re-arranging the cushions, it left the area underneath as a pretty much useless shelf. If you sat anything on it, it would just slide off if driving. Wife and I decided to add some sliding doors to make it a cabinet! My wife found this Door Track on Amazon, and my dad had a hunk of 1/4 panel we could use, he even had some of the lil brass finger pulls.

The door track was simply glued down with hot melt.1021211703.jpg

The door track was simply glued down with hot melt. Same with the upper track.

You can see we notched the doors to fit around the pieces of plywood used to hold up the dinette/bed platform.

    1021211859a.jpg

Here's the doors with their lil brass finger pulls. Our plan is to either add some contact paper with a nice pattern, or perhaps paint them. They definitely need a color change!

    1021211912.jpg

We had a small wire shelf we put on one side. Hopefully this gives you and idea of the space. I think the entire "cabinet" is approximately 30 inches wide, 14 inches tall, and 10 inches deep. We plan to put two small trashcans on the left side.

    1021211953.jpg

My wife has a small trash can like this next to her desk at home. Two of these should fit just perfect. one we will use for Recycle, the other for trash.

Installed this Noco Plug Port below the Scout Yoho's cord passthrough. Was terrifying drilling through the camper (doing it on Halloween didn't help). Almost couldn't bring myself to do it.

    1031211459b.jpg

I've got a three port adapter I'll plug into this, then into the GZ Yeti, my fridge, and ... something else? When I'm driving, I'll plug the camper into my bed outlet of the Tacoma. I did the 400 watt anytime mod, so I can have 120 watts going into the Yeti from it's power supply, and the fridge will switch over the running off AC as well. Reminder to other Scout Camper owners, the new CFX3 series CANNOT be plugged into 12v and 110 at the same time, this could fry your fridge, and/or your entire 12v system. I have an older CFX fridge that correctly switches between 12v and 110v, defaulting to 110v when available.

If anyone is interested, here's what the structural panel material looks like!

Last night I loaded the camper solo for the first time. Took many a trip around the camper with the drill to get it to the height needed to clear my truck. Pretty much have to max out the legs. Overall, I'd say the process was easy, just takes a bit of time. Even without a spotter, I was able to get it lined up and on there only having to pull forward one time, and only slightly, to better align myself as I backed under. And this was in some relatively heavy wind and rain showers. Should be even easier in better weather. I'm just glad I got it loaded before it got dark!

As for the height needed to clear my truck, I doubt many Tacoma owners will have this issue unless their trucks are running on some pretty big tires/lift. If I had airbags instead of my Deavers, I could have emptied the bags and been much lower. My springs are supposed to be 3" of lift with 700-1000lbs in the bed, and i've got 1/2 tank of gas and a completely empty bed, even took off the tailgate. It's prolly more like 5-6 inches of lift before sticking the camper on!
