This past weekend the usual smog shop that I've been going to for years just told me my truck won't pass smog. The cats are the wrong ones on it. Same place that been passing the truck for years noticed this. I had the cats replaced more than 12 years ago. Any suggestions? I cannot afford new ones from Toyota. Auto dismantlers maybe?

That's unfortunate cause I bet your cat passes smog just fine with the ones on there. You can possibly take the vehicle in to get aftermarket OE cats welded in. Just make sure its a legit muffler shop that will research the right ones.

Yeah I thought the ones that were installed were CARB approved. I doubt the muffler shop that did it is still in business. I've been meaning to stop by there to see if it is. No choice maybe but to either find someone selling or go oem.

Magnaflow makes universal ones that are carb approved but they need to be welded on. You can check on their website and put your Tacoma year and engine size in there.

Thank you. I'm also looking into Davico & AP Exhaust which have the direct fit front & are CARB approved.

When I bought my 2012 it needed cats. Walker made a direct fit replacement that looked like it was going to be my best bet.

Then, I did a VIN search for outstanding recalls and hit the lottery. My truck had an outstanding recall for cat check/replace-if-bad that had never been performed. The local toyota dealer installed brand new cats for free. However, if you're not as insanely lucky as I was...check out walkerehaust.com and see if they make it. They are a very well know exhaust manufacturer.

WAIT...I checked. Walker makes the cats. Direct fit replacement. Meets EPA requirements. NOT LEGAL for use in CA.

You may have to move, dude. What a crock.
