Trying to get this knuckle off for 2 hours and no matter what I do I can’t get it to separate. Anyone know the trick? I’m using screwdrivers. Crowbars. Hammer. Won’t budge. Any help is appreciated. Thank you

I’ve always used a big rounded chisel in those slots.
Give it a few whacks. Rotate 90° repeat. Do that for 1 rotation.
Then push the housing back into the diff. Rotate 180°.
    Repeat.
You might have the clip wedged …

Use Two short handle sledge hammers. Hold one on the side of the joint smack the opposite side of the joint really hard. It forces the joint out of round for a split second and releases the compression joint. It may take to several tries.

Pain in the ass for sure. Mechanics use a slide hammer. They're not that expensive. You may find it worth your while.

Ok I got it out. Now I can’t get the new one in to get past the keeper thing. Can’t seem to get it to engage or slide on?

Ok. That worked. Now I can’t get it to go back in past the keeper thing. Hats the trick to get it past the rough spot? Thx!!

Put it perfectly straight and whack the outmost end with a big orange plastic mallet. The guy @Timmah! making the video had big zip ties keeping it perfectly straight by hanging it from the shock tower I think, but I had my wife keep it in place while I hit the end.

If you're going to whack it in, I highly recommend putting the axle nut back on to protect the threads. If you booger up the threads the axle is a dud...I messed mine up once and cross threaded the axle nut on as a result - 400 miles later I needed a new wheel bearing (axle nut properly threaded/torqued holds the wheel bearing together while driving)

Is that all the engagement you get until the c clip is interfering with the splines in the diff? You've got to keep the whole axle perfectly straight and slam it on the outer most end and it'll pop in.

Put the axle nut back on the end of the axle and use a mallet to hammer it in

Yeah axle nut is a good move if you're not good with one of these: It won't hurt having it on there, but it won't take that much to slam it in if you have it super straight.

Yeah I was using a sledge which is why it jacked up the threads lol.

I just hope I have the splines lined up straight before I hit it
