I have 48k miles on my 2017 TRD Pro and the stock fox shocks are on their way out. Considering JRZ, OME and King for replacements.

Im not really looking for additional lift but would like to level the truck. Can this be achieved by just replacing front and rear shocks? Are the front coilovers height adjustable? If so, what is the range of adjustment?

    Thanks

Rebuild? A LOT cheaper than replacement

I'm really curious, how did you manage to blow out the factory suspension in 48K miles??

Yes. Just don’t adjust the coilovers for additional lift.

I just had my Pro shocks rebuilt by @ian2016 at 54k miles. He's local to me but accepts shipped shocks for rebuilds.

3 of my 4 were basically blown. One had no nitrogen, another had nitrogen in the oil and oil in the nitrogen (bad seal), and one of the rear ones would only come back up halfway after compression. Needless to say, I was due.

I added the Eibach Pro lift springs, RXT leafs with ubolt flip kit and durobumps, new sway bar endlinks and bushings.

They ride like new after rebuild. All my noises and clanks are gone. Money well spent and cheaper than a new setup.

They are not completely shot but need a rebuild. Had read that they weren’t rebuildable. Worth looking into for sure.

Side question, always wondered about this, what are the logistics like for a rebuild? As in, you have a truck with 2 or 4 missing suspension components, do you temporarily swap in something cheap? Or just keep the truck on stands in your garage for a while?

Someone like @ian2016 can have it done in a day. Helps if you're local of course but I kept my truck on jackstands while shocks were getting rebuilt.

Yep they are rebuildable, Ian rebuilds them or Fox will rebuild them too.

Thats the problem many people fall into when they need to rebuild, they dont have anything to put on the truck while they are being rebuilt. Its a problem for people who upgraded to aftermarket suspension too, usually they sell off their stock suspension for a few bucks (stock trd offroad, or sport suspension) then if they have a warranty repair needed their truck has to sit on jack stands until the warranty repair is mailed back.

I’m guessing the turnaround time from someone like Fox is in the weeks, perhaps months range? This is one of the quandaries that’s kept me from considering rebuildable. Maybe there’s a local shop, never investigated that.

Out of curiosity, how do you know they need a rebuild?

My repair with fox (just 1 shock) took about 4 weeks time I think it was. I was putting the suspension onto a trd offroad, so I had not installed anything yet.

I've heard that any shop that does shock rebuilds for dirt bikes should be able to rebuild truck shocks as well. Technically all the same parts. It's all oil and seals.

@ian2016 has a spare set now that he can send completely rebuilt and then you send back yours. Or you can do like I did and by a used set so you have 2 sets to avoid any down time. I have my used set being rebuilt by Ian now and once they are back my set on the truck will be sent to him for rebuild.

I kept my stock stuff with the intent of putting them back on in the event I needed to send my kings in for service.

Same here, I have my original trd offroad suspension in the garage waiting for when I need my rebuild. I will also be keeping my stock wheels and tires when I have to go back since the new ones probably wont fit with the shorter suspension.

I'm still a ways off, but I've wondered about just buying a second set of Fox shocks to have swapped in when the existing suspension is wearing out. Remove the shocks on there and swap in new ones in one go, keep the truck going, and then it won't matter how long the rebuild takes since I'll then just hang onto the shocks until the next swap out.

Exactly what I did. Got lucky on a $600 used set.

Nice, you finally got the exchange rolling! I'll definitely keep you in mind when my rebuild is due. I presume you'll want some sort of refundable deposit on the exchange?

The cheapest option is actually to find a used set of sr/sr5 shocks or trd offroad shocks. You get the setup for around $100. They will only be on the truck for a month, no reason to have extra nice shocks in there. Plus you then dont have a expensive set of shocks collecting dust for 50k miles just to put them back on again for another few weeks.

I got really lucky, I paid $150 for my pro suspension. it was off a 2017, 15k texas truck. I paid around 200$ to get the left rear rebuilt as the threaded part of the shaft was broken off. So for a total of $350 I got full pro ride.
