Edit: Everything worked itself out on its own. There must have been some gunk or something sticking that eventually cleared up. After a few of these redline starts it all went back to normal and had been running perfectly since then.

    ----------

My 2010 4.0 was hit in the front end recently. I was sitting at a red light when someone blew the light going the opposite direction, got T'd by cross traffic and plowed into the front of my truck. It was a pretty good hit, but luckily everyone was ok.

Since the accident, the truck will redline for 2-3 second before settling into its normal idle. It's still at the body shop so I haven't been able to mess with it yet, just trying to formulate a plan. Any idea what might be causing this or what I should be looking for when I get it back? Thanks.

Unfortunately the truck is stuck in insurance hell. The at fault driver had a suspended license and was borrowing the vehicle he was driving, so their insurance is trying to deny the claim. I didn't have collision on the truck so I'm out of luck on my end too. Just trying to get it back on the road while I deal with collecting from the at fault party.

Every startup, or does it vary with some factor like cold vs hot starts etc? What side of the truck was hit, passenger or drivers?

I have no idea what might be causing it, but more info is always helpful

Seems like it's just on cold startup. When we were moving it, it just redlined the first start but started normally after that. Did the same thing after sitting for a few days.

The hit was to the driver's front corner.

I have an open case with the PA Insurance Department that will hopefully yield some results. I'm sure I'll eventually get something out of it but it could take quite a while. Lesson learned to double check coverages when transferring from a beater to a decent vehicle.
