My wife and I are considered leaving FL and head to VA.

we enjoy the outdoors, but need to be close to a major city for work (at least an hour’s drive). but we’d also like to be close enough to drive up to the mountains (3+hour).

any place y’all would recommend in VA? we’re visiting VA in december to check out some places.

Charlottesville is nice and can be pricy depending the area. But that is any town/city.. Also in the foothills of the mountains.

I’m in Richmond. It’s ok. The mountains are 1.5-2 hrs. from here. The beach is about the same, the other direction.

The busiest most congested areas are the Hampton roads (Norfolk area) and NOVA (northern Va.)..

You will still have the humidity here. Can be worse at times as it will set and not move at all. That said, the state here can see all four seasons or two. Depends on the year.

Richmond metro always has a solid economy, good job market and reasonable cost of living. The heat and humidity can be bad here, but nothing close to what you have in FL. 2 hours to the beach, mountains, and DC. Lots of restaurants, foodie scene, museums and arts/culture is solid as well. Has the feeling of a small city, but with more resources and opportunities of a mid-size city. Roanoke is smaller and a bit more sleepy, but also a pretty cool little city, but farther west in the mountains, so a bit removed from larger metro areas. But big enough to have decent employment market and economy, and Va Tech is just down the road in Blacksburg.

We’ll see. Stoney ultimately runs that show in the city. And he threw the best chief of police this city has had in years under the bus mid-shitshow.

State govt is a dumpster fire. The GA is building themselves a new palace with all sorts of “security” features to protect themselves from all manner of things (including having to mix with us, the unwashed masses). Now that Northam is soon out I hope some things improve. I’ve worked with, and under multiple administrations (R and D) and it seems most are chock full of morons.

Sorry to hijack the thread. I’m just disgusted with the state of political affairs (from both sides).
