I carry a small to medium size Husqy, can't recall the model #. that I got a deal on years ago. Big enough to deal with most deadfall I run into or fire wood at camp. I'm also handy with a machete and that is mu first go to tool for clearing. I can't imagine needing more than a tanks of fuel on a day trip, so, you're probably good with filling before you go. Because my trips are usually for work, PPE is also included.

I have never needed a chainsaw on the trail but no judgment here. That is because I am not doing the kind of hardcore, out in the middle of nowhere off roading that you are doing. I can see how having one would be very handy, though. If you go down this path, Stihl makes a good little one that might serve your purposes:

I use that a lot on one of my properties and it gets the job done. I will say that if you go down this path, it won't be something you just throw in your truck and leave it there. Maybe it is just me but I find I have to be meticulous on the maintenance. Better for the chain saw and also a lot safer.

I put on a CURT front receiver hitch the other day. I even cut the front air dam to suit and reinstalled it. Only #350 tongue weight, but a useful location to hang a clevis.

No photos, 'cause I don't wish to irritate those who do not abide the front air dam. ;-)

There’s also one that uses highly tensioned spring-loaded steel pipes under the rocker panels that deploy and just f^cking ANNIHILATE the legs of any fool who’d dare try carjacking you or entering your vehicle. I kinda like this method best. Wish I could find a vid.

I carry a chainsaw when I go out. But I live in the forest country of British Columbia!

 

Deployable Urban Rock sliders! They would soooo be sellers in the city!

Combine those with a moving CHAIN SAW and you have a real hi-jack deterrent!

Death by fire doesn't play well in court. Broken /cut tib fib on the otherhand gets smirks and WTF comments.

 

I have a Stihl MS170 for firewood etc. It has not given me any problems even with extended periods not using it. Don't drop the bar nuts on the ground, they're hard to find when you do. They should come anodized & dyed or powdercoated orange!

 

I usually have a M18 fuel Sawzall with a few of those long carbide tooth demo blades. It’s not a chainsaw substitute by any means, but I sort of view it as an in between from a bow saw. A couple 6ah batteries and a M18 car charger live in the truck too.
