I just learned production began on my 22, dealer believes I should see my new baby in about 3 weeks. I ordered the OEM tonneau cover as an option. Does anybody know for model year 22 is this a soft or hard cover?

    It's a secret
    It'll be a hard tri-fold cover.

I was hoping so, hoping actually for the BakFlip. What is your confidence level on this fact if I may ask.

Clever! I did search the forum before posting BTW. Toyota calls it a soft cover when you spec it as an option on the build page, I specifically ordered the premium package with a tonneau. From my Google search, seems like the OEM soft covers are in Canada, not so much the US. It is not clear, and that is why I am asking.

If only he were more knowledgeable. This will be one of the first '22s to hit their lot.

I know that when I bought my 2021 Taco in the accessory section the options of hard or soft covers where there and you could choose. Not sure why your salesman did not point that out.

I believe there are two but I'm not sure if it is a regional thing or not. The one I have is the OEM tri-fold hard cover one. It wouldn't hurt to reach out though to find out for sure.

Dealer has confirmed it is the hard cover. Now I wonder, is there a true "Toyota" OEM or just Bakflip?

Doubt seriously that they are building the truck and use a Backflip with 1000s of others getting the Tacoma stamped OEM cover. I personelly like the oem cover better than all the aftermarket ones I have seen.

They are after market covers with stamped with the Toyota logo on them. The only difference is that Toyota warranties them for 3 years.

You will like the OEM hard cover; it's a heavy duty beast!

Center console divider thingy, rubber bed mat and side steps for the wife.
I think ASC makes the OEM hard cover for Toyota.

Sorry made a mistake by saying the tonneau cover are stamped with Toyota. I know for sure they out source a lot of their products that stamped with their logo on it. e.g all weather floor mats, carpet mats, bed mats etc etc. I had a hard shell tonneau cover back in 98 on my TRD Sport that had the Toyota logo on it and it was color match for the truck which I ordered and was installed by the Toyota dealer.
The soft cover that I have now has the Trifecta logo on it and it was installed by Toyota. Just saying

Bakflip is better (imho) sits flush and can open all the way up (oem can't). The dealer where I'm at even displays the bakflip in their showroom (not the oem....lol).

Mine came with a factory, (actually a distributor installed option), BakFlip cover. The things I like about it is it sits flush, it opens all the way (full access) and it doesn't require the bed caps to be hacked up for installation. Interestingly, it didn't come with either BakFlip or Toyota markings.
