I believe those are located up high in the engine bay from the factory.

If you want, "Blais Bros Tacos" sells a pre-made kit for $30 shipped. It makes it easier knowing that you will be getting everything that you need and they are all the right parts. Message @Blais03 or @LivinLoud .

For those using the tail light location - go up high. Or use the fuel door location instead. I used the tail light method - but - my brother-in-law uses his OR to pull a bass boat. And often takes it to "unimproved" launch locations. He says that he has unexpectedly found his outfit pointed toward the sky - and the tailgate damn near under water on more than one occasion.

Why he does this is unexplainable..........

So I did this mod but now second guessing myself. If Toyota engineers designed it this way it has to be for a reason.
The rear diff gets used constantly and always heats up. If we put a very long tube on it with a two way valve, that means the heated air goes up the tube, cooling as it goes until it condenses and drips back in.
I'm thinking I need to shorten my taillight tube down to the length of the factory front diff tube, since the engineers would have thought of that. Perhaps they even routed it near heat sources up front to keep the air in the tube warm to prevent condensing.
    Thoughts anyone?

This is just a "counterpoint " but then why are the front diff and Trans breathers using long hoses going into the engine bay? I think the Toyota engineers new that the rear diff was going to go "up and down" a lot more and they did not want to add something that might break and water might go into the diff if breakage happens.

With all the flooding going on in the south figured this mod would be a good Idea.
Used 7ft of hose to put the new breather in the gas tank pump area and didn't find it necessary to use any zip ties.

How are you all fitting the 1/4" fuel tubing over the nipple of the union? I got it covered and there's about 1/8 inch that I can't force down all the way flush with the hex nut part. I tried pulling it off and it won't come off without probably damaging the union inside the diff area.

Recently did the mod and can't believe I waited this long to do it. Should be mod #1 for anyone new to Tacomas. Went up behind the taillight and went longer on the hose to give it room for future lift. Link to my build thread for more details.

Thanks OP and everyone else who contributed & shared knowledge!

Wondering if anyone has had issues with water entering the diff after doing this mod?

Having water NOT get into your diff is kind of the point of the mod.

If you have it done and got water in there it likely is because of a bad clamp or the union wasn't tight.

About what I figured. I was having a hard time imagining that hot air coming out of the diff would condense and go back into the diff.

Went ahead and did this today, went for a fuel door location like the OP. Used 6' of tubing and had plenty of room. Two zipties finished it up. Was a bit of a pain trying to get the hose onto the breather (tight fit) with a topper on and ended up with one hand in the fuel door and one under the wheel well.

To all of you that have raised the rear axle vent above the frame has it made you question the EVAP system?
