Howdy! I'm in the SGV area in SoCal and just got a 2021 SR Utility 4cly. Costco found me a dealer that didn't charge the market adjustment fee, which is avg $10k out here, so I jumped on that deal. The sales guy was funny, he kept searching for the "utility package" because he couldn't see where the price was added. I pointed out that its the -$1750 and he couldn't believe it haaha. But then I couldn't believe him after he told me it was a short bed haaha.

Anyways, I signed up to peek around and learn some stuff about the truck and the maintenance. I hope to be able to contribute some useful information someday. See y'alls around!

I'm posting from Delaware but I grew up in El Sereno...zip code 90032.

What is this Tacoma you speak of? I'll have to google it.

    Welcome!

Thanks for the welcoming! Grew up in El Sereno, how long ago? I'm itching to leave this state. One day someday I'll make it out haaha. But this place is different and changes very quickly. Probably totally different than you remembered it to be.

so the truck is an SR access cab, the utility option removes the tiny jump seats in the back and the rear door speakers while subtracting $1750. Everything else is retained, just rear seats and speakers. The description says no intermittent wiper, but it was included on mine. Lots of room for stuff and a bit cheaper. Still has the other stuff so I'm not missing out on much. I did see a couple threads on here where members are talking about how they utilized the space gained haaha.

I graduated from LA Wilson HS in 1985...joined the USAF in 1986 and have resided in far-off lands as well as various cities in the US since the mid 80s.

Very fortunate to have completed 25 years of active duty service. I retired out of Aviano AB, Italy but we kept our home in Dover, DE and had property manager rent it out. Since I did not actively pursue making E8, I was retired High Year of Tenure as E7 and came back to Delaware.

I still have family in LA...mother and sisters and lots of nieces/nephews who have kids of their own.

My sister (who I have enticed to move out here to the east coast) says the same thing you say..."One day someday, I'll make it out". She actually said it's probably too quiet where I live and she needs to hear sirens/helicopters in order to go to sleep. Okay, memory lane rambling has to stop.

    So the SR line is pretty much a BASIC Tacoma...unlike what I have...a TRD line-up...and your's is a 4-cylinder.

What sort of duties do you perform with your truck? To and from work...general cargo hauling...you've got the 6ft bed which gives you another foot of length.

Do you have concerns about catalytic converter theft? Being in LA, I would think you do. What do you plan on doing as far as upgrades go if any?

Thanks for posting pic...with mural in the background...classic!

Thank you everyone for the welcomes!

    @TacoTime55
Ahh yes some parts over here are too quiet haaha. Sometimes its so quiet that my tinnitus is super loud! Then other nights a Mariachi band will play until the sun rises, someone will be having a house party until morning, I can hear the rumbling of Rose Bowl and Dodger stadium fireworks, and then the helicopters and random gun shots here and there haaaha.

Back to the truck, yes the SR is the basic and the utility makes it more than basic by taking out the rear seats! Haaaha

I got the truck to be a hauler. I'm moving around a lot of gear and coincidentally both me and my brother have spaces to vacate.

As far as dressing up the truck I want to put a lumber rack on it, I also like the Yakima racks. My buddy put a Yakima rack system on his truck and its pretty awesome because its modular. Gives a lot if options over the old tube design.

One of the big things I want to do, and I hope anyone can answer this is that I want to buy someone's take off head unit that has a cd player! Mine is the smaller screen with buttons on the sides. I wonder if the larger touch screen will work. I don't have navigation or anything more than basic so I wonder if the existing harnesses and everything would work. I just don't want to lose any functions. I'll posting this later on in the forum.

I also added the plug in bed lights. That was a fun and easy to do project. It was super cool because I got to teach my 7 year old the socket wrench and he helped me install the lights. He was super excited to see them turn on, it was a proud parent moment haaaha.

Yeah, maybe cities like Monrovia and Santa Anita off Huntington Drive area are quiet...but not really. I grew up near Huntington & Poplar in El Sereno.

I love the Mariachis...but not all night long!

My mom lives in the Inland Empire when I visit so I don't hear the noise at her house. My sisters live more towards LA and I don't spend the night at their places.

So, you're a carpenter who's on the move? Hauling lumber and stuff? Those Yakima racks are nice to assist with that.

As for your console/dashboard improvement...I would seek professional assistance with your goals. Interested in the thread you will start.

Cool beans with the bed lights install and your son learning from you.
