Greetings everyone. I just wanted to express my concern about something i did today.

i have a Tacoma 2020 sport, and i loaded 44 boxes of 16x16 ceramic tile. Im estimating like 1600 pounds, and the load capacity is 1200. This is something i would never do again but i wanted to ask you all if i should be worried, even if i dont sense any issues at all.

it was 2.8 miles, 10 mins drive. Thank you in advance

Take a look at the bed mounts and make sure there's no cracking or bowing. I have to imagine you were riding on the bump stops so take a look at those and the leafs and shocks if it makes you feel better but honestly OP you'll be fine

You're fine. It's rated a certain payload and then they add extra for safe measure. I've carried that kind if weight a few times and it's all good.

You are good. Just realize this truck is not meant to haul heavy. It's a lifestyle truck, not a work truck.
The Tacoma meant to be a work truck is a SR or SR5 access cab 2WD.

Definitely not a work truck but when you need to get something done, you do it.

    Welcome to the forum :hattip:.

You should be fine, people have been overloading trucks for over 100 years. Just don't make a habit of it.

You may already know this: Always try to keep the majority of the load forward in the bed, it helps share the load with the front suspension and makes the loaded truck handle much better.

Not something I'd do on a regular basis, but once in a while for a short distance you'll be fine.

As others have said don't make it a habit. I've overloaded my other 2 3rd gens a few times each they handled it fine. They are trucks with a lower payload rating then most, but seem to take it okay. I had the 19 on the bump stops it was a little light in the front end. With 2/3 yrd of black dirt on. It was a fairly even load. And I'd aired the tires to 35lbs Max rating for the tires. You sounded like you took the proper precautions. Keep enjoying your truck.

I had a yard of gravel in the back of my truck and drove for about 45 mins through the mountain passes, no issues at all. You will be fine sir.

Just don’t make a habit out of it.

I have driven my 3rd gen 4Runner with 2000lbs + of wood in the back multiple times over the years. I even towed a 6000lb trailer from Tucson to Detroit with a decent load in the back at the same time. I know it's not a Taco but you are only talking about 400lbs. I have seen scrappers just overload the living hell out of 1st gen Tacomas so yours has to be even more capable

Seriously doubt you were on the bump stops.

I was hauling 1200 lb loads of construction debris to a landfill 30 miles away. I was measuring the compression of the leaf springs to gauge my load.
Measuring from the ground to the rear fender flare, a 2 Inch compression was consistently 1100-1200 lbs. I had plenty of space to the bump stops. The total weight of hauled debris was over 10,300 lbs. The truck has suffered no lasting effects.

Don't worry. Your load was not severe and the distance was short.
