I just got a two inch rough country leveling kit installed on my tacoma and I wanted to upsize my tires as big as possible. I have a front bumper with allowed me to cut off as much trim as possible on the front and I might have to do a little cutting on the side closest to the drivers seat. I want to put some mud tires on, right now I have some all terrain and its not cutting it. I was at the store the other day where I got it installed and he said that I can go up to a 33, I want to keep the same wheels I have but just new tires. Any suggestions? Thanks guys!

Be aware. Mud tires will be heavy and noisy. Handling may suffer.

    Do you go mudding???

no amount of lift will make up for the fact the front wheel wells simply are not big enough to fit 285/75R16 sized tires without likely inner fender removal, pinch weld flattening and cab mount chopping. That is unless you like rubbing when flexed.

33” fine with 2” lift or so. Recommend switch out UCA. Minor trimming

Unless the tire shop guy can test fit 33's and allow a test drive free of charge, I wouldn't put much faith in his eyeball test. It'll take more than just a 2" leveling kit to run 33's.....properly.

IF you're not doing any extreme off-roading you maybe fine with just some minimal trimming. But if you plan to use your truck off-road be ready for a lot more...

Fox shocks, Total Chaos UCA’s, 285/70/17 BFG KM3’s, full skids, fully locked.
Like already stated, you will most likely need new UCA’s, cab mount chop and Hammer the pinch welds. And that’s just to fit 285’s.

A lot of factors involved for what you are looking for.

First off be ready to get your hands dirty when going 33"+ tires. Unless it's an off road shop the tech will not help trim fenders, do a CMC, or probably take anytime to get it dialed in perfect.

Wheel specs (diameter, backspacing, width) make a big difference as well.

    My particular experience is:
2.5" front lift 2.0" rear lift
SPC upper control arms @ 3° caster
    255/80r17 Toyo AT3 Tires (a true 33" tire)
TRD sema "trd pro 4runner wheels"
    Cab mount chop

My tires rub at max flex on the fender flares (top) pretty good. Cutting 1" off the flare would be enough to clear tho.

This is the clearance I had before the cab mount chop.. rubbed hard while off road
