Curious what the trend is for features and what the preference is for configuring a Tacoma... Access Cab or Double Cab.

For practical reasons I recently acquired the Double Cab with the 6 ft bed but I would think it is too long for the average person. I would also assume the TRD outsells the SR5.

Ps coming from a 2nd generation I am quite pleased with the 2022, it may be my imagination that is seems like the 3rd gen has a wider turning radius, love the new one!

On this site I think double cabs out number access cabs about 5 to 1. Out in the world most access cabs seem to be for commercial use. I prefer the AC, full size bed and not super long

Oddly I have never used the Double cab for passengers, it is always full of my sports gear ;) The extra storage in the back seat that is lockable is brilliant.

I had an AC Ranger for years and couldn't wait to get rid of it and into a DC. Getting dogs in and out of the AC as well as sports gear, tools, groceries, etc. daily sucked. It's so nice to just open the door, throw stuff in, and be done.

Not to mention I don't need to trade vehicles with my wife if more than two people need to go with me somewhere.

I would guess that 90 percent of new Tacoma's sold are Double Cabs.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
I guess it depends on the context when referring to AC or DC. (good Friday post topic there!)
When I was shopping almost 18 months ago, Double Cabs were the most prevalent in my region and Access Cabs were extremely scarce.
I am not sure this can be attributed customer preference as much as what Toyota's regional sales teams feel is appropriate for specific regions.
All I can say is that it took extreme effort on my part to obtain a '21 TRD OR AC auto (actually my original order was for a '20) in my area.
While I was able to get something very close to what I wanted, the translation between the 2020 packages and the final 2021 packages was not identical.
I am happy with what I now have, but I think the ability to order EXACTLY what one wants has long since passed.

Double Cab for me. I don’t do it often but it’s nice to be able to carry two adults back there if I need to.

Gotta be the double cab, When i ordered my 2020 access cab all they had on the dealers lots were double cabs and double cab long beds. Seems everyone wants a 4wd station wagon with a bed.

I think double cab with a short bed (5') is the most common configuration.

edit: at least on the consumer side.

My preference was double cab, can carry passengers when needed like a car but still wanted a truck for hauling stuff.

I see a lot more DCSB trucks. Not just Tacoma, but just about everything including 1/2 ton and even 3/4 ton trucks. I'm old enough to remember when regular cabs were pretty much the only option with any truck. I drove various full size extended cabs for a while before trying the crew cab concept.

At 1st I was concerned about the short beds, but have never found anything I couldn't haul in a 5' or 5.5' bed where a 6' or 6.5' bed was enough bigger to help.

I see more Double Cabs than Access Cabs.

I went with the DC/TRD Sport. Use the backseat for securing things and one time for passengers.
