What makes this story even sadder is the NFL and the players union negotiated ride sharing incentives to prevent this shit from happening.

Personally, I think the NFL needs to be held partially responsible.

You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it think. It’s tragic for all involved but anybody that thinks it’s possible to prevent bad things from happening without everyone living in straight jackets is delusional. Freedom of choice inherently comes with the certainty that some will choose badly. Two lives ended that night and there’s not a thing that can be done to make it so it can’t ever happen again.

It’s not a question of prevention. If it were, we should already be there. It’s a question of a shitty decision making that led to the horrible death of an innocent bystander.

No question about it. I just wish more sober people would drive with the knowledge that they hold the lives of others in their hands since you don’t have to be going 150 to kill someone. Not gonna happen though.

I feel like there’s a lot of pressure to drive. Whether it’s leaving your car in a sketch place, facing a tow for leaving over-night, or the stigma of being too drunk to drive—that sounds dumb but it’s like admitting you’re no longer in control, we could do better at encouraging people to find an alternative. I am hopeful autonomous vehicles will help give people incentive to leave the driving to someone else. I would be grateful if cities, especially those with nightlife scenes, would allow overnight parking when people feel they’ve had too much to drink.

Simple things would go a long way.

edit: And let’s not forget the stick. Harsher penalties for first time offenders. Including loss of driving privileges.

I personally would like to see it much more difficult to pass both written and driving tests along with more causes for suspensions. It’s too easy and once passed soon taken for granted. It’s a privilege with responsibilities not a license to commit mayhem. Drunk driving is just one of the many idiotic ways people put others at risk.

Penalties are already pretty harsh yet people still drink and drive. Autonomous vehicles are a great solution, however can't the driver still be cited if found intoxicated? Regardless, if the drunk driver is not controlling the vehicle then there is less chance of an accident or fatality.

We should just jave a stupid meter for stupid drivers. If we have a watch that can tell us when to eat sleep and shit well, its not far off. Maybe not more rules, if we have to many theres to much call for policing them and stangles those who actually have to drive for a living(its already in place and taxes us physically as well as our pocket books).
Hows the thought of just taking you license on the spot if found under the influence. I say take the license and its a minimum of a five year loss. After five years then you get the hard test with a blow starter for five years. Of coarse those all get paid for by said drunk idiot.

Penalties aren't harsh compared to the rest of the world. .5 in many (compared to .8 here).

Also, I by autonomous, I mean something like Zoosk--no driver at all.

If we are talking mild wheeling and fire roads I would go. But if it’s serious wheeling I would be forced to decline. Stock truck.
