    Hey to all,

There are a ton of forum threads, and figured this one would probably be the best one for me to start in.

I haven't really done any mods to my truck yet, because I'm trying to make sure I don't rush and buy the first things I see.

I've only got my windows tinted and added a black ball hitch so far lol, but those were easy additions that I know for sure that I wanted.

As the title says, I'm looking to transform my truck to a more rugged look. I ended up buying the metallic grey 21 Toyota Tacoma SR.

I like neutral type colors (dark grey/black/red...) and thinking of doing accent colors on the truck that way. I'm up for recommendations on running boards/wheels/front bumper guards/lightbars/smoked headlights/taillights/etc.

All suggestions are welcome, because I'm just a little overwhelmed on where to start to get the best look that I'm going for. Not sure if I want to lift the truck, but just trying to accomplish this look with what I have.

Thanks in advance, and look forward to everyone's recommendations!

    Welcome!
I'd just pump the brakes and spend some time here, you'll get lots of ideas. Everyone's idea of cool, rugged, etc is different. I like the stock look, with items added only for purpose, like slightly larger ATs,,, but I'm the minority around here:D

Welcome to the forum. As already mentioned, spend time perusing to see what other have done to get ideas.

Oh, and.....:worthless: Let's see your truck.

Welcome to the forum. If I were you I’d just play with my truck for awhile to see what you think of it stock, then start off with smaller mods like chrome delete inside, led lights, bed mat, then work up to bigger stuff like new wheels and tires. Reading too much on this forum can cause great reductions in your pocket book.

Welcome, but I'd delete your account and get the hell out of here or you'll spend as much on mods and accessories as you did on the truck :spending:

If you aren’t sure what you even want to do to it, just drive it and get to know it first. And while you do that for the next few months, look around here, YouTube, etc... to see what others have done and what YOU like. Obviously everyone has different tastes in things like wheels, tires, bumpers, etc... You can ask about a lift and people might suggest a $2K King suspension setup, which is very very nice. But if you’re like me, I don’t need that (or want to spend anywhere that much on suspension) because I’m not hitting hardcore rock trails with my new truck (I have a 25 year old 4Runner for that). Even the stock suspension will handle a lot more than most people think. Personally, I bought some front top plate spacers for $35 to give me a 1” lift, and a $200 add-a-leaf for the rear. That suits me just fine, but that won’t suit everyone.

Nothing says rugged looks like raptor lights and a salt life sticker. Then if you're on a budget like me you can get an Ozark Trail cooler from Walmart and stencil on a Yeti logo. Boom. Rugged and baller all in one.

I went with the Pro grill as one of my first mods to replace the cheese grater grill. I always thought I wanted the raptor lights and thought they would be very cool … Until I actually saw a truck with them. It had the 4 raptor lights, I would’ve I went with three. But I got to say I when I saw that truck with the four raptor lights, I didn’t like it as much as I thought I would of.

I’d work on getting some dings, dents, and scratches. Nothing says rugged truck like some trail rash and battle scars. I don’t want my truck to look rugged, but I’d be happy to help anyone else.

Nothing says rugged like the look of freshly rolled

But that's a bold choice, not for the faint of heart.

I suggest starting with the small mods and work your way to the bigger ones.

And welcome to the forum :hattip:

Post pics of the new ride!!!
    That’s Rule#1 around here. :)

First major thing is wheels and tires. As soon as you have a nice set of wheels with some beefy tires…..changes the look and attitude of our Tacomas.

    Welcome to TW

i also have done minimal things to my truck and have been checking out the forums for ideas and whatnot.

first thing I did was tint the windows too and change interior lighting to LEDs. My bf bought me the tailgate inserts so I put those one and removed the chrome badges.

BUT I think I just decided on pulling the trigger on the rock sliders from Cali Raised. My birthday is coming up so I gotta spend money lol

    Nothing at all....

It's a Toyota Tacoma - nuff said - no need to 'look' any different than it is...
All the other pretenders sitting next to you at a red-light wish they were in a Tacoma.

Oh do lock your doors, or be prepared to swat the chicks away that will swarm your truck.

I find the colour coded threads pretty helpful to see what other have done with basically the same truck. Build subforum is also a great place to get ideas.
